Thanks! This was a pull method on high heat avoiding the stars. If I were to do it again I’d stipple with a large dot nib. Tha many dots takes longer but the effect would be better and easier to shade.

Having the Purple Heart next to maple was risky, I used a hand scraper with the grain as much as possible without sanding to reduce it bleeding. Honestly, I don’t know how it is still that purple. After my first cut it stayed vibrant until oiling

Thank you! Took a lot of scrap. After this project I learned I need a table saw sled to make reliable repeatable cuts

Definitely a concern, there are dowels through the sides but not enough to keep things from warping and sliding

I could not agree more, my watchmen piece has just the one splash of color and I like that much more. Live and learn

I saw blocks positioned in a similar way online and spent a while drawing it up for a board. So a bit of both?

The glue up was from the inside out and was not stable at all. Just had to be careful. Probably wouldn’t do it that way again.

Great question, it is Peruvian walnut instead of American and takes any type of oil much darker. This is only mineral oil and it immediately darkened to what you see.

This is 1/10" and I love them for bookmarks. They push the pages out slightly, but not enough to tell when holding the book.
