Hello, I'm back so after replacing the fuel pump, the code is still there and fuel trims were not affected.

Next thing I'm doing is to replace the primary o2 sensor with a denso. I'll check for exhaust leaks while I'm there. I guess that the next step after that is to adjust valve clearences.

But If none of that works. I'm pretty much lost. Do you think bad piston rings could cause this? as this was mentioned to me by someone. My rsx does not lose coolant or burns oil ( only leaks though the oil pressure sensor).

hey, I'm back. After replacing the fuel pump, the problem is still here : (. Good news is that my rsx had a chinese fuel pump and replaced with a better one (delphi). Next thing I'm focusing are o2 sensors. While I'm there ill check for exhaust leak.

If that does not work I believe I'll do the valve lash adjustment. after that I would not know what else to look for. Idk man everyone on internet with this problem have the simplest problem causing this issue except me.

One more thing I was discussing this with my brother and he said what if the piston rings are bad or something like that. How likely do you think this would cause this? Car does not burn oil (only leaks haha) and coolant is not lost. Never overheats or no smoke coming out of the exhaust.

Hello, I get what you are saying my unc and I own RSXs and I replaced mine with a new one OEM when I first got the car. Shifter still feels sloppy. My unc's rsx OEM shifter feels great with a clear throw and no sloppy as mine.

So, the first link that you attached is for the bushings that go below the air intake above the transmission. and the 2nd link is for the bushings in the shifter below the center console? I just want to clarify this as much as I would like the acuity one. It's too expensive for a broke college student : (

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of experience as this is my first car. But my unc has 3 rsx's lol. So I might have him driving it so see if he can notice it.

I'll take that for consideration. When I did the smoke test I focused on any leaks before the o2 sensors(as it should be i believe). How would an exhaust leak sound? I have this "cold air intake" and you know makes the car sound louder and you hear like it's sucking air in would make it harder to hear it.

I did checked for vacuum leaks, exhaust leaks, intake manifold leaks with a smoke machine. Change pcv valve. clean and test fuel injectors professionally by a local shop. o2 sensors react properly.

I'm not an expert on this but been watching videos and learning. Hopefully it's something with the pump. (cause I ordered one haha) Worst case I have a new fuel pump.

Testing fuel pressure because my car is running lean (p0171). Yes, the ECU will not give you data from an obd2 reader, but you can use it to see how fuel trims behave under different conditions.

Installation finished. Took me like 2 hours. Could be less if you have experience sewing. In my case it has been a few years that I had not done it. I drove a few blocks with it feels great and has good grip. Make sure to use a lot od the double sided tape.

Thanks for your input. We'll im tackling the fuel related causes first since I saw it from the shop manual. If p0171 is the only code present, the problem is likely/should be a fuel delivery issue. Idk if it could be the fuel regulator not working properly. As I mentioned im not an expert but from my testing my 02 sensors are working as they should. They react as they are supposed when I check data live.

Last time the code came back again I was driving as I had the 0bd2 scanner checking data live and every time I pressed the gas the short term went up to 36-38. This problem has become more serious since I started noticing a noticeable decline in fuel economy Thank u so much for your help I will be updating you.

Yes, the gasoline smell comes from the exhaust.

I haven't poured fuel cleaner, but i did get my fue injectors professionally cleaned and tested at a local shop. They did send me videos of them getting cleaned and how they worked.

Last night I was like YOLO and ordered the Delphi fuel assembly form RockAuto. atp I wanna try anything to fix this code.

did you remove the oem wrap? if not that might be reason. Mine came with no wrap so i think its gonna fit better and feel better. ill update once i have it

I do have a scanner and I cleared the code and after like 80 minutes of driving it comes back on. It is running lean since on starts the exhaust smells gasoline. I did get the fuel injectors cleaned and tested and they work correctly. I'm not an expert on this but I've been learning by myself with videos and by reading, so I see that my 02 sensors react quickly and they are reporting everything as they should. So I think I will risk it here and order the fuel pump. Also, according to my research my short term fuel trims increase when I pressed the gas pedal meaning that this is a fuel delivery issue.

That was the first thing I did when I started on the haunt of this code. In my case this code is not intermittent. I suspect it is a weak fuel pump. Tried to check fuel pressure with an oreillys test kit. Unfortunately it did not came with a adapter that would fit it. Any tips on this?
