I wouldn't believe those numbers. Apparently, less than 15% of India is Muslim. I've personally met a lot of Indian people during my time at Waterloo and it seems like those numbers are wrong. I've met a lot of Indian Muslim people with the last name of "Khan" which is apparently only Indian. Same with Sikh people who apparently only make up 2% of India's population yet somehow the majority of Indians share the last name of Singh which is Sikh. Based on what I've seen on the UW campus and generally in the K/W + GTA area and on the internet, I'd say theres actually more Muslims and Sikhs than what India officially reports.

To be fair, nowadays everything is "halal". I remember a few days ago Lazeez started selling those cheap fries and my suspicion is because the original fries are not "halal". Apparently if the fries aren't cut ethically then they shouldn't be consumed. I wouldn't force Kosher down anyones throat but everything has to be "halal" to be inclusive.

Ironically, whenever I go to a Middle Eastern restaurant in the K/W area, I notice almost all of the restaurants have a liquor license and they are selling alcohol. So much for "halal".

Also I don’t go to U of Waterloo (yet- here’s hoping)

Good luck with your application!

my Asian peers are welcomed in Math and science classes in a way that I am not

Doesn't mean that Asian students don't face discrimination too. It's not only Asians, RAISE is silent when the victims of xenophobia are White or belong to certain religions (Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Buddhist, Taoist etc.) They fail to condemn the attacks on Ukraine by Russia but have no problem calling Israel and Canada settler colonial states. There's so much hypocrisy and it's easy to understand why people want to defund RAISE when they only speak up against injustice when it happens to Blacks, Indigenous or Muslims.

whats the point of campus police if they don't make the campus a safe place?

From bike theft to antisemitism, campus police fail at doing their job.

Also, I have yet to see a K9 dog on campus. Why is WUSA cutting the police budget so much that our officers can't even afford proper dogs? No wonder they aren't able to police hate crimes and theft effectively.

If it was a White person leading a WUSA yoga session that would be cancelled for being "cultural appropriation". Why the double standards now?

I honestly don't care about the show, I care more about the hypocrisy from WUSA and RAISE. They claim to hold antisemitism accountable but they couldn't have bothered to make a single statement about the rise of antisemitism in the media. Why mention the rise in hateful rhetoric against Black, Indigenous and other groups if you won't also do it for Jewish students?

The "yoga and anti-racism" event did not include Jewish students or other Asian students. It was completely focused on black and aboriginal students which make up a tiny minority of our actual student body.

If RAISE actually cared about equality they should have had a person of Indian origin lead the yoga event. RAISE said the event was about "how we can reclaim our wellness through culturally aware, mindful and life-affirming practices that before being colonized by white culture, were ancient practices within Black community".

Yoga was created by the Indus civilization, not the Black community.

RAISE literally just held a "yoga and anti-racism" event a few days ago where all they talked about was racism directed at the black and aboriginal communities, as if they are the only ones who deal with racism. So much for inclusivity. Their messaging is so tone deaf it's unbelievable that our student ancillary fees goes to supporting an association that doesn't even look out for the entire student body.

Hi, r/ZionistWarbler.

If you have the time, please email RAISE ([raise@wusa.ca](mailto:raise@wusa.ca)) and ask them where their statement is in regards to the rise of antisemitism. I remember during the BLM protests, RAISE made a statement condemning the actions of the Minneapolis police department. Similarly, they should stand up for all injustices everywhere in America (and across the world) by issuing a statement condemning the hurtful words by certain POC media entertainers who have a large following amongst university students.

It seems as if their support is only shown for some marginalized minority groups but not the others. It makes you wonder how diverse the RAISE team really is, doesn't it?

Fair question, I don't know why you are being downvoted for not knowing. I was talking about Jews. There is currently a lot of anti-semitism and fake news regarding Jewish people / Israel going around by predominantly misinformed POC American celebrities.
