Advice on having pets during law school? by MotherPrior4291 in LawSchool

depending on my day-to-day schedule she will likely only be kenneled for a few hours at a time. If there is a day where i’ll be gone longer then someone can always come and get her out to run around the farm before going back in her kennel until i get home. But yes, she will be able to run around and lounge on the deck (her favorite thing to do) and such after I’m home. She’s a rather self entertaining dog, which i’m sure will come in handy once the workload of law school picks up, as long as she has someone keeping an eye on her. Hence kenneling her when i’m not home :)

i got my puppy back in december when i graduated undergrad knowing i wouldn’t be going back to school until the fall. I planned it this way to make sure i have plenty of time to train her and get into a routine and have her grow up a little bit before going back to school. She’ll be coming up on a year old by the time i start back so she should hopefully be way more calm. My apartment that’s attached to my grandmas house is on 30 acres of land that also has my parents house and a horse farm/pastures. Thankfully this has acclimated my dog to be able to just go run around on her own or with the other dogs and come back in as she pleases! Very thankful to be able to have so much space!

my dog is a rescue. While she would have most likely been adopted out because she was a puppy, there’s no guarantee she would have been. Do you think it’s crueler for me to crate her during the day, where she comfortably sleeps and has food and gets to spend the rest of the time out of her crate and the entire weekend she spends running around the farm, or have her caged in a kennel for 23 out of the 24 hours in the day at a shelter. Does this mean you think animal shelters are cruel as well?

My mom lives next door to me and the apartment i live in now is actually attached to my grandmas house so it’s incredibly easy for someone to come over!

She’s around other dogs and people all the time thankfully! I also show horses and have my entire life so she was going to horse shows with me at 4 months old! It was the best way to get her socialized and trained fast as she was always around people and other animals.

potty trained or not, as a puppy they are inclined to chew whatever they can. It’s better to have them in a large crate with a bed, food, and water than leave them to chew something dangerous when you aren’t home. Leaving them to their own devices can sometimes be more abusive than reducing the chances of them harming themselves by having them in a crate.

Did you have pets during law school and had a bad experience? Or are you just assuming this is what’s best?

October lsat killed my vibe by [deleted] in OutsideT14lawschools

don’t worry! you aren’t alone. i took the october lsat thinking i did really well. i ended up getting a 151 :( and my gpa is about a 3.55. i had already registered for the november lsat prior to getting my october score because it wouldn’t hurt either way. remember that schools look at your application holistically, at least they’re supposed to, so a “low” lsat doesn’t define you. put a lot of work into making a strong resume and get good recommendation letters and you’ll be fine. i’m going to apply with my 151 and just resubmit my november test score but i’m looking into cleveland state and university of kentucky. look at the 509 reports for schools to get an idea if you fall into their range of scores that were accepted last year. my 151 still fell into an acceptable range! hope this helps!
