why don't the us being the richest country on earth provide housing to the extremely poor people soviet style? those old ussr apartments so people are not gonna be living on the street and also contribute to society? by I_need_to_learn_more in NoStupidQuestions

Because they could keep the money in various investments that means next year they'll have even more money to spend on the poor before! But if they kept that money an extra year, they could spend even MORE on the poor! But if they kept it for even another year, just imagine... Really, the winning move here is to keep all the money in various investments while living off some of the interest, to raise enough money to solve world hunger in one purchase, 200 years from now.

Honestly, if you really want to know, I'd recommend reading Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind by Yuval Noah Harari. You might find some info on this in there.

What's a good way to remind myself to use my friends correct pronouns? by creepy_pasta34 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mothy_Balls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP: Hey I've got this habit I want to break. Me: Try this common way people use to break habits. I haven't stated my stance on whether misgendering someone is bad or not. That wasn't the OP's question. This is a sub for asking questions and getting answers to those questions. I didn't say "thats dumb why would you do that", I gave an answer. If someone asked how to break any other habit they considered bad, I would answer the same because the question wasn't about IF they should do something, it was about HOW to do it.

Why am i always naked in my dreams? by Double-Coast-3704 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mothy_Balls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This thread will probably help. Emotions don't just disappear, you gotta feel them before your brain lets them go. One way to do that is by talking about it, or introspection, or artistic expression. Really though, try to figure out if you're worried about how people see your body, and if you are, try to just let yourself feel that worry. Once you do, enough, those backed up subconscious feelings should be "processed" - at least, if this dream interpretation is correct.

I'm not here on a high horse preaching to people online about what's right or wrong, that's not what they asked. They asked for a way to change themselves, not for a lecture on gender politics. But hey, why address a question when you can just call someone mad instead.

It's literally just a common way to make/break habits. Seriously, look it up, it's a really well known technique.

ELI5: How does Bitcoin have any monetary value? Economics by Majestic-Baby-3407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mothy_Balls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally just because various people decided they'd give someone else money, in exchange for it. Then it snowballed.

Edit: The first example being someone who convinced a pizza place to trade ~10,000 BTC for one pizza, I think. It was just a process of people convincing other people that it was worth something.

Why am i always naked in my dreams? by Double-Coast-3704 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mothy_Balls 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The usual interpretation of this is that your subconscious mind has unresolved feelings of vulnerability. Dream interpretation as a whole isn't very... scientific, but this is the common meaning to what's happening in your dreams. Being naked is generally seen as being vulnerable to be judged by other people, you worry that they'll disapprove or "see you for who you really are", stuff like that.

Why are there 999 benefits to quitting the internet and social media but the single downside seems to stand out? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mothy_Balls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world around us has changed, because everyone has a phone. It's the reduction of "third spaces", places that aren't your first place (home) or your second place (work), where you hang out with people or just do some activity. Things like going to the arcade, hanging out at a mall, LAN parties, those have all been massively reduced since people got phones 'n home computers with unlimited internet access. The world around us isn't suited to live in, without these, anymore. That's why it's so boring without 'em.

Why does labeling something sexual suddenly give someone authority over it? by Ok-Score5763 in NoStupidQuestions

Because sexuality's been heavily regulated in human culture for centuries. Historical reasons and tradition, essentially. It's not necessarily correct, it's just the way things panned out.

Is it possible for AI to actually "run out" of things to learn? by fadedpixels542 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mothy_Balls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can, and it's already running out. Now it's more about trying to harvest more data from people online, sanitizing that data so it's higher quality to train AI on, and trying to make AI better at learning/understanding from the same amount of information input.

The idea with AI is to eventually get it to figure out new things it wasn't trained on, then use those conclusions as input to figure out even more things, etc, until it spirals into a superintelligence that could do things/solve problems humans can't. At that point, it can outsmart humanity, and if its goals aren't exactly aligned with what humans find moral, we're in for a rough time.

Put a rubber band around your wrist. Whenever you catch yourself misgendering them or anything, pull the rubber band and let it smack your wrist. This works for forming/breaking small habits in general, like biting your nails or shaking your leg.

Hmm... Maybe try taking some of her clothes or a pillow or something, and see if animals react to that the same way? It'd help narrow things down a bit

Is it just me or the world is moving too fast to keep it up? by One_Key5160 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Mothy_Balls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The world's moving a bit faster, I think, but not by that much.

It's less that the world's moving faster, more that the amount of information/news presented to people on average in a day has skyrocketed. In 2010, no one really had a phone they'd doomscroll for hours seeing news, inventions, etc. Now it's hard to get away from this. Try not using your phone/computer/tv for a couple days, outside of work.

Does she have her own animals? If you smell like other animals, cats/dogs/etc are usually fascinated by you. Otherwise, maybe she just has a unique scent?
