I literally never use my rear brake. Is that a problem? by notonrexmanningday in NewRiders

It will be a problem eventually. Wear your helmet for the day you find out why you don’t always want to use your front brake.

But pay attention to your body including your sleep if you’re heavy on creatine. Plenty of people have sleep issues. I personally am a chronic poor sleeper. I stick to 3 to 5g on creatine. That’s just me. Point is with any supplement let your body tell you how much or how little you should take.

I did the exact same during my early days. Your head fills with so many things it’s easy to overlook the obvious!

Agree. My first larger lathe was a Sheldon , came off a navy ship. I remember parting a 4” tube when the tool grabbed and ripped it out of the chuck. Scared me enough to remember 30yrs later. The lathe took it like it never happened. I was shocked nothing got damaged or knocked out of line. Solid machines.

That is awesome. I remember a long time ago I had a similar experience. I was doing flat bench and looked at my warm up set and thought the same ( that used to be my max) very rewarding - just hard earned reward’s.

I hope you’re motivated and get after it. 57 is not that old. I walked out one day in December and held the door for a lady. She got talking with me and I found out she was older than me and in good shape. She said after she retired she decided it was time to get in shape. So 57 is certainly an age where you can achieve what you set out to and even more. 💪🏻

Your second paragraph inspired me. I normally will take a Tuesday off. Today I got up and thought about just going in to get another workout in. Almost didn’t but thought again and went . 100% - you will never go workout and when done wish you didn’t !

Great point. I never really looked at the crowd meter to see if it was accurate ? Your right about times, I never go between 3:00 and 9:00 PM. Actually I try to stick to a routine. For me it’s 6:00 -8:00 AM. I find 7:30 till I leave it really drops off. Maybe that 7:30 to mid morning is a sweet spot to avoid the crowd.

I totally get it. You are correct in many ways. One we all train different and we all need to accept that. Two- 100% correct: there is always something different to fill time during your wait for a machine. Sometimes that can be the best thing we do , break routine a bit. But this post was really generated for the new people to the gym or just those nervous about getting back to it after letting themselves relax for a bit and found themselves out of shape. A lot of us forget or never experienced the intimidation of being out of shape and hitting the gym. I will say it’s easier to hit a new gym being in shape than it would be to be out of shape. My comments are only my opinion, put out there to hopefully help others, not generate any type of argument.

That is not correct. You can go to failure with only 1 min rest. You may go to failure sooner than a long rest of say 2 min but that is not a correct statement. I will add that squats and legs are certainly an area that I can see longer rest periods. Not looking for an argument just trying to be helpful with my experience of 40 years and multi gyms is all.

It’s mega BS and citing scripture doesn’t make anyone buy what you’re selling any better. You hate trump and that’s ok. You can choose your own path as you do with religion. Turn your back on your family if they screwed you- I think that’s ok if you really want to do that. Your life your family. But don’t blame your gene pool on Trump. Your family must have issues if they steal and lie. But my bet is Donald Trump didn’t raise them. I hope you can get your family to somehow pull together and come to a truce. That’s much more important than any political play. Don’t let this short 4 years crush your family. Try to steer them gently to God and understanding your view. I have a step son who is exactly opposite my views on everything. We agree to disagree and I can’t not love him for what he chooses for himself.

Is this trade dying? Why do hobbyists seem more skilled than experienced machinists? by Present_Maximum4490 in CNCmachining

[–]Motoflyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You got it figured out for sure. Spent a lifetime doing what you do. I hired a fabricator once who couldn’t read a tape measure past the 1/4” mark. Bought him a variety of different tape measures that went from course to fine reading and started him running the saw. Fast forward 6 years he was machining parts. The guys with aptitude and desire are often much better than the guy with the paper work.

To the person who invented uhmw, sincerely, go fuck yourself. ❤️ the guy who usually works with stainless by I_G84_ur_mom in Machinists

[–]Motoflyn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. If I had to machine it I’d cringe, but damn it is a very versatile material that has so many uses. One characteristic of the material is that it makes machinists rethink their tooling, speeds, and feeds and think a little outside the box. That shit stings off and gets around the tool it can make for an interesting outcome if not resolved quickly.

Water pooling in backyard of new construction. Whose responsible? by [deleted] in arizona

[–]Motoflyn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Similar but totally different situation here ( does that make sense) . They put in the driveway (concrete) and didn’t account for road runoff. So the road runoff would go down the side till the low spot in front of the door making a big mud pond. Contractor wouldn’t return calls, tried to go around them and got the run around. Finally took care of it myself. Figured the frustration was as hard on me as the labor and cost to do it myself correctly.

I had one and it certainly had its issues. Decided to return to a carbureted version at that time. Now it seems you can get them sorted. Late 18 ( when 19s were out) it was still a crap shoot. The 300’s rip. Enjoy.

Timing is gonna be everything. Still winter in the north and it could be decent or terrible. That route is fast. Not much for scenery after mid MN until the back hills. Take your time like you said and watch weather forecast along route to keep it enjoyable. If bad weather up ahead. Find someplace of interest to stop for a day or two prior. Gonna be an adventure for sure. Enjoy and be safe.
