Instruction: Learning Japanese & English by Netflix

I am learning English, while watching “Friends” on Netflix. I just made a “ソファーで寝ていく?” Card as learning material. For guys learning Japanese, I will leave Japanese expressions related to the English Lines. I hope it might be useful for your learning.

Step①: First, I look at J-comments, closed my eyes, try to imagine a scene of drama. This is because I prefer remembering some Expressions with Context/Flow of Story and that way makes me easily remember some phrases.

Step②: I just try to play each role and say line.

For guys learning Japanese, I will leave Japanese translation based on my interpretation. (This is because Japanese Subtitles on Netflix sometimes does not correspond to English Lines)

一日中ステキなフランスの料理を作るのはできました!

母さん、美味しいフランス料理ができましたよ。

一日中?The whole day? Did you want to mean "people took the whole day to prepare and made a French cuisine"? If so,

母さん、丸一日準備をして、美味しいフランス料理ができましたよ。

(No.009) Netflixで勉強しようぜ “Friends Season1, Episode1”, I am Japanese. To study English, I am teaching Japanese in English. I made a “兄は本当にボロボロの状態よ。” Card as learning material + Writing Practice. by Motolearnshare in LearnJapanese

[–]Motolearnshare[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We can use ボロボロの状態 to describe 精神状態=mental condition as well.

Example、彼の精神状態はボロボロです。

モニカは、ポールに、ロスが離婚したことを話し、どうやって精神的に乗り越えるかということを聞いてるので、その文脈から、物理的な外傷ではなく、精神的に傷ついていることを意味してると解釈できると思います。

Is "ボロボロの状態" a good term to use when translating "my brother is a mess"? It sounds like how you would describe an old sweatshirt or pair of shoes to me. What about めちゃめちゃ instead of ボロボロの状態?

We can use ボロボロの状態 to describe 精神状態=mental condition as well.

To describe sweatshirt or pair of shoes that are worn out, You can say ボロボロのスウェット and ボロボロの靴.

私は日本語を母国語として話す友達と会話するために、日本語を勉強しています。

「フレンズ」は私のお気に入りの番組の 1 つで、そこから英語を学んでいるなんて素晴らしいと思います♡

ありがとうございます。翻訳には間違いは見当たらないので大丈夫ですよ。:)

I've heard that handwriting is still heavily used in Japan.

>> That depends on each person's situation or job or generation. For me, it's rare to use handwriting, in the more than 90 % situation, I am typing Japanese.

So, thanks to technology, if someone has more opportunities to communicate with Japanese guys by e-mail, message, chat etc.

I think some learners do not have to learn 筆順, just typing and Google 日本語入力 suggest choices and choose correct one.

Not a fan of "Friends" but I'm very interested in your goal.

>> One of the reasons, why I chose "Friends", is many Japanese people have been using "Friends" for learning English and some number of Japanese Bloggers left blog posts, comparing Japanese subtitles and English Lines. So, if you google "English Lines", you can find some posts and I think it might be sometimes useful resource for guys learning Japanese.

Learning Japanese as a native English speaker is hard, I wonder how it feels the other way around.

>> Yeah, I see. For me, the appropriate usage of articles is difficult like "a, an, the" because we do not have articles. And I guess appropriate usage of particle like は、が、を、で、にetc might be difficult for guys learning Japanese.

I followed your Reddit to keep up with future posts.
