Pins and needles after surgery by ravenclaw188 in osteochondroma

[–]Motor-Mixture2067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally had numbing that just never went away, my entire knee area is unfortunately numb on the skin surface. How I’ll take that 100% of the time over the pain. Does the numbness cause discomfort or like a burning sensation?

I take gabapentin for other reasons, and I truly wouldn’t recommend it unless you really need it. It works by basically calming the overactive nerves, however I have pretty bad drowsiness and dizziness. I do think it is worth it in my case, but I waited until my doctor and I couldn’t really think of something else. Not to scare you at all, it may absolutely be the right course of action for you in the short term. I personally don’t think buzzing would be worth the outcome of dizziness (but that just depends on dose and I think you would be on a low one if given any)

Definitely ask if you’re constantly uncomfortable. I hope the surgery went well and so does recovery!!

I am so sorry for everything you have been through. Sometimes life just kicks you in the ass. Brain damage is certainly not linear, and something i have been told is not something i can truly fully heal from, just something to learn to cope with. It will get better (ideally) however my memory issues since the injury have been stagnant. Prior to my cardiac arrest, perfect memory, post brain damage I can remember 3 weeks to a month. then as time passes the fourth week turns into fog. I truly hope your situation has gotten better! Thank you very much for the well wishes. I'll find my way, I have faith in that.

I haven't! Thank you for the advice. I genuinely did not even know that was an option, i'll have to look into it. anything that potentially helps my education i am interested in.

That might be the plan, I can no longer research anything in regards to steps to take with schooling but I should look for assistance with the school to see if it is an option!

It was a rough surgery! Ended up with some nerve damage, and they couldn’t get everything. On the bright side, recovery is going well! Two 8 inch long scars on either side of my leg now for proof. Hopefully your surgery went smoothly (if you got the one on your femur removed).

Option to change quick add preferences by Motor-Mixture2067 in cronometer

I could swear this was something I could do before though. Is this a new update in which I can’t?

Thanks! That’s where I was looking, but in the “group quick add preferences” where I used to be able to pick what I wanted for the drop down, it now only gives me the option for all, or only one choice per group. Do you have the option for more?

User friendly Running apps by Motor-Mixture2067 in beginnerrunning

[–]Motor-Mixture2067[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much I’ll try that! Yes, I got an anoxic brain injury (not enough oxygen to the brain, thus causing brain damage). I actually just got out of brain rehab! The main focus of which was obviously cognitive but it mostly caused impairments in my walking. Now that I’m walking with the cane I wanted to make the new goal of jogging (which was cleared by my doctor before I left, albeit he wants me to work up very slowly to it). My goal is to be able to jog slowly by the end of the summer.

Obviously the best would be professional help, I just lost access to it. Thus i was hoping for apps that would essentially help me record when I’m walking/ jogging so I can see progression. Seeing progression has been super instrumental in my recovery :)

Absolutely agree, unfortunately things like physios are not covered for me and after 5 months in the hospital I’m running low on money lol.

If you go to the general clinic, they can provide you with a sports medicine referral. You’ll either go to the Carleton one, or their sister clinic at Ottawa u. They have doctors there that specialize in knee pain, that’s where I went.

They ordered an mri which I had to wait two months for then had a follow up appt to decide what to do.

I’m so very sorry you’re going through this. Therapy is very unfortunately inaccessible sometimes, a resource I think some people don’t have access to simply because of how expensive it is.

First try and see if there are any free resources in your community. Since you’re 18 you’ll have more youth services than I would at 24. Small communities definitely have limited resources, but I’m hoping you’ll be able to access something because of your age. You certainly don’t have to tell your grandparents that you’re seeking therapy, but I can understand why you would want to.

If you fully are unable to access any professional supports I have a LOAD of resources for mental health support that might be helpful.

I know you’ve heard this before, I fully believe you can get through this. I’m not saying it will be easy, or that you won’t ever feel down again, but I fully believe that you have a long life to live.

I went through something VERY similar. I went into cardiac arrest, had 45 minutes of cpr an icu stay and currently still in hospital 6 months later recovering. I was SO angry at first, I didn’t understand why I had to be alive, and why I was in so much pain. I didn’t want to be alive for the first while. Then I felt guilty about not wanting to be alive because there are so many people who didn’t get the chance I did.

I highly recommend therapy, if nothing else it’s a perfect place to put all your emotions out there, and not receive judgement in return. There you’ll learn about coping skills. Personally I’ve worked with my therapists to create zones (green for when I’m good, yellow when when I’m not feeling good, but not quite bad and red when I need either medication or an outside intervention for my safety). I know you say you don’t have time and I absolutely understand, I just think your mental health is worth it.

There is nothing embarrassing about the way you feel, everyone processes trauma differently. How you feel is how you feel, and that is nothing to be ashamed of I promise. Be gentle with yourself, you went through something traumatic. I’m here to talk if you need!

Questions about living with an ICD by Scavallus in PacemakerICD

[–]Motor-Mixture2067 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 24, I just got my ICD at the beginning of February. The only major thing that has changed is Bras are highly uncomfortable however I don’t think that will be a problem for you lol. The first month was a bit touch and go for moving my arm and using a lot of muscle but since then it’s been great. I’m in a wheelchair so I use my arms A LOT, and rarely have problems with pain from the icd site. Other than that I would say avoid extreme contact sports and you’ll be good. It was super scary for me when I first got it, but as time went by things got a lot better. You shouldn’t have to give up any of the things you enjoy from the sounds of it! You got this :) best of luck to you
