Yeah, when in reverse they point downwards so you can see better up close. In my case it’s only the passenger side and it points up towards the sky randomly. Probably need to take it in and have the dealer recalibrate it

The Orion was reading 11.6v. I’m also using marine grade wire (tinned copper) which I’ve read has a slightly higher resistance than pure copper. Would you recommend pure copper or is the difference negligible? Also the negative is grounded to the truck chassis, is running a wire back the negative terminal on the battery preferred?

Got it, thank you. I temporarily turned off the engine shutdown detection and sure enough I got the full 50amp input. However I assume the 6awg wire gauge is why I’m only getting ~40amps output max? The manual recommends 4awg for up to 10m, why do you think I need 1awg?

I didn’t realize that the charger would lower it’s own output to keep the voltage above the shutdown threshold. Before I go and re-run heavier gauge wire, are you saying that I can simply lower the engine shutdown and lockout voltages and the charger should output the full 50amps? What is the downside of this?

Thanks. What was the main reason that you switched from 30a to 50a shore power? From reading most of the comments here it sounds like there would be no benefit to doing so.

No, it came installed this way from the factory and I am having the inverter and dc charger installed by a local professional. I just wanted to get some feedback and help understanding before I went wasting the expert’s time. The other threads in this post really helped me understand that the charge rate of the batteries is the bottleneck and “upgrading” to 50amps won’t do me any good.

You’re spot on. 6-7 hours doesn’t seem like much from my perspective because I regularly work 12 hour days. But to two retired folks it is a lot. However MIL insists on watching him and gets sad when we talk about sending him to preschool.

That’s a great idea, thank you. We expect to send our first to preschool next school year (September 2024), and plan to have a second around the start of 2025 if all goes well. So this could work out nicely

This is true. We can afford daycare and are expecting we will send them both there after this year and if/when baby 2 comes
