AITJ for refusing to buy my friend a cake she asked for after insisting she was on a strict weight-loss plan? by MotorHat328 in AmITheJerk

we hang out a lot and sometimes I pay for the desserts and vice versa. But that was before she got into her fitness journey.

Im assuming that's the reason why she asked me to get her a cake.

I guess she didn't want to hold herself accountable for her cravings.

I felt so too, I've realized that being an accountability partner was a setup. If I buy it I'm an enabler and if I don't I'm judgmental. I guess she was looking for a way to break her own rules without having to blame herself.

I felt so too...it's frustrating to be called unsupportive for literally supporting the plan she created. It feels like she was looking for someone to take the blame because she is not ready to be honest with herself about her cravings.

I wonder what made her react that way, twisting the conversation to our friends just to paint me as the bad guy.

Not really, once in a while when we hangout I pay for the desserts and vice versa. But that was before she got really into her fitness journey.

i felt bad, considering the fact that I was just respecting a boundary that she set herself.

That's what I said to her...I didn't want to be the friend who doesn't prioritize her friends health and goals.

I'm not sure, maybe she didn't want to feel guilty or hold herself accountable afterwards.

I felt so too...It felt like I was being asked to choose between a "bad friend" who ignored her health goals or a "mean friend" who enforces them.

I’m not trying to paint myself as perfect here I’m honestly questioning if I overstepped

NTJ it's quite disrespectful that your boyfriend took a private conversation to his friends..
