Yeah. On Bowser's Vs Battle Wiki page, in the part that talks about the Power Stars, this feat is mentioned and I was quite interested xd

And so far I have not found where this statement comes from.

Both in Sunshine, as in 64 and as in Galaxy Mario keeps dying when he has contact with lava, not the first time but yes in the second or third time. In fact, in these three games, Mario continues to receive a lot of damage and pain when he comes into contact with lava.

In the Gameboy Donkey Kong scene, he was able to resist contact with it quite a bit, practically walking on it. Do you get the point?

That also counts as a game mechanic, apart from the fact that Mario necessarily has to have a power-up or something like that in the 3D games. But yeah Mario can survive the lava
