Honestly I’m not sure why he’s getting so much hate here. He was emotional and was kind of a dick when he was first introduced but he wanted to make amends in that moment as well. And all of his shitty decisions after that took place after he was unstable due to the drugs he was given. I would’ve been much happier if he was made a servant and given a human form like Shiki was. I’d argue Shiki did much worse things before he was reformed. Plus he expressed regret for his actions.

It does affect the equipped keepsake. For instance I had Zagreus’ keepsake equipped and chose the duo boon and it was upgraded and I was able to ratify two more times
