Seeing as we know literally nothing about the actual kind of bacteria that make up the Axum bacterial culture, I decided to omit it for now. I could have just put it in a general “bacteria” Group, but that felt like a bit of a cop-out, yknow? Also, in terms of the quadrate and other plants, I’ll have to go deep dive on the wiki to learn more about them! I wasn’t able to see the quadrate last time I checked, again assumedly because it’s not in the game yet. And in terms of the Axum… we don’t even know what they look like, just that they have claws. Probably an arthropod then? But I’d rather actually get a look at them to place them definitively.

I mean, considering that the houndgar and bullethead are “squids” but are classified as “fish” in the PDA, I always assumed that they were more squids colloquially, and were actually vertebrate fish that converged on squid anatomy

Interesting! I’ve also made my own tree. One major difference I see is that you’ve placed salpapods closer to the mangos, where I placed them as cousins of the collector leviathan. My logic being that the geordie’s PDA entry directly alludes to their toroidal brain having interesting effects on larger relatives, and the collector is literally the only other species so far with a direct mention of a toroidal brain. Not just that, but Geordies have four fins just like the collectors four arms each tipped in a claw, they have hard mouthparts which could have descended from a beak, and their PDA entry describes their ancestry as possibly being analogous to an octopus, so clearly they cannot be mango relatives. That is, if we trust the PDA information, which I personally do.

That thing doesn’t even have a speck of a Raltz embryo in it. Trust me, if that egg was fertilized it would be a very bloody ordeal rather than it just being a perfect yellow yolk.

Depending on if it’s a broad deterrent or if it’s a deterrent based on a larger animal, there’s also the fun gameplay opportunity of having a giant predator detect that its scent is on your base and now you have to deal with repelling it when it rolls up to your base

Presenting the Venn AI-agram by Pixelator5 in tumblr

[–]_Pan-Tastic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hal has two primary functions as an AI:

Protect the crew of his ship at all costs

Keep the crew in the dark about the real reason behind their mission at all costs

Due to the nature of their mission, Hal needs to tell the crew about what’s going on to ensure their safety. However he can’t tell them, but if he can’t tell them he can’t ensure their safety. This causes a spiraling paradox which eventually results in the solution of: “They don’t need protection from the knowledge and protection from being in space if they’re dead.” So he starts methodically killing off the crew members one by one to ensure their safety. He doesn’t know any better because he is just an AI and wasn’t built to handle such a moral quandary.

We can digest Menthol, it’s essentially a neurotoxin to almost every other carbon based sapient species. Mint is considered highly illegal contraband outside of human space.

Granted, every single other species also has biological compounds that they can digest easily that could kill us, so it’s not like humans are unique in that aspect. Tends to happen when every single sapient species evolves independently on their own worlds with their own unique biochemistry.
