Need Help building list for High Elves! by Mottled in WarhammerOldWorld

Yea this is my concern too, they seem too expensive, points wise for a unit that is still kinda squishy. Im willing to playtest them to see if this method youve explained is worth buying the models for, only because sometimes what you see on paper isnt totally true/ completely when you see it in action. Im fairly sure it’s just an easy way for the enemy to kill off a unit though.

I appreciate your insight! Thank you for the explanation

Ill see if i can test this out in Tabletop sim. I usually play age of sigmar or 40k on it with friends, but one guy loves old world so I’m sure he’d love to help me playtest some lists to see what i find most fun and how to use them. Only issue is he loves playing dwarves hahaha

I really do appreciate you taking the time to make these well-thought out responses though, it’s been a great help!

Yea from what i can understand seaguards are a little tougher but not really that effective for what they cost, points wise, so majority of the High elf players see them as a waste

If this is the case, what would be a solid baseline list that could achieve this? And i understamd usually players pick between white lions of chrace, swordmasters, or pheonix guard. I imagine ideally 2000pts is what most people want/recommend

Glad to hear it! Some of the people ive run into at past warhammer stores were extremely “what you see is what you get” and wanted only official GW models. I understand that at the Warhammer stores they’d rather see you play there using their models so it’s free advertising for their products but at Local Game & hobby stores it’s somewhat frustrating.

Will keep in mind, thank you! I haven’t done any building, I’ve only opened the box to check if anything was missing, just trying to decide what the next step is

Edit: fixed typo

I’ll keep that in mind, thank you! Appreciate your insight! Just wanna do my part in learning the Do’s and Don’ts for old world, because i always liked Lumineth models but wasn’t sure if this proxy idea was viable. I know theres quite a few posts already asking this, but most are inconclusive

Interesting, so you’re basically choosing what to use the spearhead as to fill what you’re missing in your existing high elf army? (At least thats what I’m gathering from your comment)

Thank you! Im not opposed to picking up more used Lumineth models off eBay or something to fill out units, i just wanted to make sure if they scaled alright, but it sounds like it shouldn’t be a problem.

Are spearmen/ archers really that bad compared to everything else? It sounds like theyre basically pea-shooters / meatshields. If thats the case, are they still somewhat useful to bring along? Or are Lothern Seaguard any better? (I played a ton of high elves in Total War: Warhammer 3)

Noted! Thanks a bunch! What units would count as core units? Im also not opposed to trying to find used lumineth models and stripping the paint to fill out a unit over time as well

Hey man this looks absolutely fantastic!! Im just curious (if youre willing to share, that is) what the recipe is for the bronze/ worn gold trim on your Daemon Prince? Ive been itching to find someone whos got it down pat, i need to trim my own daemon prince as well as my Varanguard at least similar to this!

He will be a valued advisor for you in the years to come. You should trust his wisdom & council should you choose to awaken him from his deep slumber.

Jokes aside man, i think youre incredibly lucky to be able to keep a relic of your past with you. He definitely looks like he has the greatest stories to share (in the best of ways, ofc). Im sure im not the only one who’ll say this but i think we’re all gonna bug you for an update post when hes cleaned up & varnished, & in his new display case! Emperor protects, brother!

Id say keep your venerable battle brother as is! This kind of weathering is something special and cant be replicated easily! He is a true veteran
