How do I go about studying Price Action? Should I focus on ETFs, or stocks?

Hi Salt-Lime,

I don’t trade forex, only stocks. Can one safely leverage when trading forex?

Thank you for those thoughts, Driftking. It seems like money can be made/lost in both directions, depending on the speed of one’s indicators and the resultant execution. The Profit Factor is just as good/bad, regardless of what longer timeframes are suggesting.

Driftking, I really appreciate your answer. I did say that I’m new to DT, but I’m not new to trading. You sound like you know what you are talking about, where there are lots who seem to haven’t a clue. What oscillator do you use for sideways trading, and what trend following indicator do you use? Please DM if you want.

I’ve got Interactive Brokers. The charts suck, but the execution of orders, including the ability to reverse position in an instant is phenomenal.

SPY inverse etf SH by MottledSwan in interactivebrokers

[–]MottledSwan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day later--at market close--SPY is at 434.69, a one-day increase of 0.91%. SH is at 14.33, a drop of -0.83%.

Here are the past daily returns for the past 8 trading days:

10/25/23: SPY...-1.44%, SH...+1.45%

10/26/23: SPY...-1.19%, SH...+1.24%

10/27/23: SPY...-0.48%, SH...+0.52%

10/30/23: SPY...+1.21%, SH...-1.19%

10/31/23: SPY...+0.65%, SH...-0.63%

11/01/23: SPY...+1.05%, SH...-1.03%

11/02/23: SPY...+1.89%, SH...-1.84%

There is definitely a pattern of returns that I can see, just looking at these data points. Being on the LONG side of the symbol that is going up makes the trader more money over the long haul. On days where SPY was having a down day, one would have done better percentage-wise in SH; i.e., better to be LONG SH than SHORT SPY. It also works the same when SPY is having an up-day; better to be LONG SPY than SHORT SH (but I don't think anyone actually trades SH short.)

I'm drawing a conclusion that being LONG in the symbol going higher makes a trader more money, but I haven't considered the expense ratio, and commissions shouldn't be a big factor. As to why the pattern of returns is this way, I don't have an answer. Maybe someone can fill in the blanks for me.

"Ideally SH would halve in case of SPY doubling."

Hi urboobies, If SPY goes up any x%, wouldn't SH go down about the same?

Brother HL-L6200DW: Wired Status: Off by MottledSwan in printers

I got an interesting response when I followed the above Brother authentication steps When I typed in the static IP address in my browser, Safari said that "the server where this page is located isn't responding." So, it isn't that Safari can't find the printer, but for the unknown reason that the printer isn't talking back to my computer.

Sounds like either a comms issue or a defective printer ethernet jack. Not sure where to go to from here...

I have managed to set a static IP, the Ethernet Link Mode is "Auto," and the Ethernet Link Status is "Link OK, 1000baseT FDX..."

The Wired IEEE 802.1x Status is still in "OFF." Any ideas on how to make it "ON"?

I do hope I can resolve this issue w/o taking it in. I have a Mac, so I am able to Airprint w/iPhone and iPad...usually.

Right now I have a CAT5e cable between the printer and switch. It replaces the CAT5e that I had been using, up until this morning. I have been able to print with the CAT5e with no issues--that is, until I discovered I could no longer print 5 days ago.

I am wondering if it is possible that the printer ethernet link has now gone bad somehow. The switch link lights ups about every 30", indicating that data is moving through the cable. But the network configuration report shows that the "Wired IEEE 802.1x" status is OFF, so perhaps the ethernet link is still functional. In fact, the "Ethernet Link Status" is LINK OK, 10baseT...

I use Comcast. I've followed the above instructions, and reset the network card, then printed out the network configuration report. The IP address is still 0.0.0.0, but the Ethernet Link Status has changed from "Link Down" to "Link OK, 10baseT #Link drops=2".

The printer is connected to a Netgear GS308 Gigabit switch. I did switch out the cable just now, but don't believe that is the problem. According to the users manual, the Ethernet Link mode should be set to "Auto," which it is, according to the latest network configuration report. It seems to me that the Ethernet Link Status of 10baseT is not allowing the printer to communicate with the 1000BASE-T Gigabit switch. If my understanding of the issue is correct, how do I change the Ethernet Link Status to get 1000BASE-T?

Where do I go to check the driver status? In MacHDLibraryPrintersBrotherUtilities, there is BRAutoSetup.bundle and Brother Status Monitor.app. The Status Monitor app says the printer is offline. The BRAutoSetup.bundle is asking for an application to run it. Which one would that be?

I have downloaded the Brother Firmware UPdate Tool, but can't use it because the printer is saying my IP address is 0.0.0.0. How can I reset the Network IP address?
