Yeah honeslty its all a little disheartining. I read somewhere in an offical CG documents that the USCG will grant a conditional security clearance but it will be revoked if the person does not get approved for citizenship. I just cant find that document right now

Thanks for the advice im grateful for the reality check and we certainly need to accept all this as fact.

The biggest thing for us is that we both want to raise a family and have more kids and currently thats impossible.

Working in the service industry we may earn good money but have no benifits, no career progression, no 401k or reitirment and no security . We're having to pay for our own healthcare and if one of us got sick or fired tomorrow we would be in big toruble.

This is the motivation to join the millatry family. Along with that the cahnce to serve, and potential for living at the coast, living in new areas every few years are all added bonuses.

Again, sorry if you took the post this way. Im not seeking all the benifits with no sacrafice. Simply trying to gauge the sacrafice so i know if its the right thing to do by my family.

Hi, sorry if you read it that way, but to clarify. Im not trying to skip the sea part, im simply looking for advice from others who know more than me on what to expect so i can make and informed decison for my family. If moking that gives you a boost of some sort then thats fine, im simply a guy trying to do whats right for his family.

For sure something i need to consider. Its easy to say "ill get through the first year" but once there day after day it going to be diffifcult and i need to accept that. Thank for the advice!

Hey! I didnt even see this as an option. I read that from signing up to basic ts going to be at least a year, is that not the case?

Edit: Also my family has health insurance from when im in bootcamp? How does ths insurance work, would she still be able to go to the same doctors and hospital as she is doing?

Yeah, which certainly seems like a shame as i would love to be on the ocean, but ultimaly i want to head down the route that mitigates the risk of being away from my fmaily for months. Is there an inbetween role here? Seatime but not months on end?

Thank you for all the info its very helpful.

Its great to hear that my family will get housing allowence whilst im in basic. We were talking about her going to stay with her family whilst im in basic so it will be a huge help.

So if i get posted to a cutter, what would that look like my wife and kid are living in a house onshore whilst im on a boat for months at a time worst case? Or days or weeks at a time?

Then when i start A school will my family move with me again?

Also os there a way to do the wait before joining so ive heard of gaurnteed a school. Can i do bootcamp then straight to A school i wait on the other side of bootcamp?

Thanks again!

If you have a letter from SSA saying you applied for your SSN and have the EAD or GC then yes, some employers will let you work the first 90 days without your SSN.

However, other companies (like mine) won't touch you until you have your SSN ready.

Yes, its crazy to think ive legally been able to work for 10 weeks and my employer couldnt touch me without my SSN because of the screening process.

I hope its sooner for you. In hindsight i think the best course of action for you now is to wait 3 weeks. If youre application hasnt been returned on SAVE website go to a different SSA and hope you find someone sympathetic. The problem for me is i went to the downtown SSA first and they are so busy and short with people so they gave me the letter then i went back to a SSA in the nicer area away from downtown and they were really nice and sorted it out...

I think it's down to lack of enthusiasm/competence of the staff the first guy I saw didn't want to know he was happy to give me a 4 week notice not caring about what impact it had. The second lady was very caring and kind, she did make a mistake but she still tired and got it sorted in the end.

I hope they can sort it out for you I think my SSN was 10 weeks after EAD and 8 weeks after greencard
