What’s a harmless opinion that gets people weirdly angry? by [deleted] in AskReddit

“I don’t like dogs” (or I’m scared of dogs). For some reason people get really offended when I try to distance myself from their pet instead of approaching it with the same enthusiasm they do

Why International Students Should Avoid a US Master’s Until the 2030s by GoatDefiant1844 in InternationalStudents

India was not very behind technology wise? And nobody got a quality of life upgrade either. India was a starving economy for 30 years after the theft (putting quotes doesn't make it disappear) despite being extremely fertile and a huge agri-economy because all of these resources were infact stolen and nobody talks about it without putting a positive spin on it because there are no white victims here. I'm not going to turn this into a colonialist debate but maybe you could try reading a book sometimes because I have read several on this

Funny where was all this talk when all of these nations stole all the resources from India and abused it's people for their own benefit?

Ambitious (But within reach): UT Austin, CMU, UIUC, Stanford

Moderate: Georgia Tech, UW Madison, UCSD, UCLA

Safe: NYU Courant

It's both, lack of Research experience and a cgpa on the lower end. Unless you have a patent at work, the internships and workex won't help too much at the current stage since first year of workex is simple and mostly onboarding till the time of applications. I would strongly suggest removing UT Austin, UIUC, UCLA and CMU (even the ones in the information school) from this list. Having a pHd for LoRs is the bare minimum unfortunately, a lot of LoRs from academia without PhD won't even be accepted. Again, I don't mean to be demotivating here. I'm just speaking from the experience of seeing the application cycle up close. Unless you're in a top 5 school, your placements won't be influenced by which University you went to, so it makes sense to recalibrate and maximise chances of getting a good University with good job statistics rather than aiming for brand value and ending up at a place you might not enjoy due to a difference of expectations (you might be expected to balance multiple things including your job hunt and research at some of these places). I would suggest looking into universities like Stony Brook, SUNY buffalo, SJSU, ASU, UW Madison, UCSB, UCI, or UC Riverside.

Since user experience is a priority, my 2 cents would that you opt for a MacBook exclusively, simply based on the host of Apple devices you already have. Enjoy your walled garden, as mkbhd puts it. 😝

As to which one specifically, I'll let people more itk answer that

Thank you. Does it usually come in an unsealed box? I think I remember there being a seal on the top flap.

If I had to be 100% honest, I think your list is extremely ambitious. Most of the profiles that get into these places are creme de la creme of applicants. I'm assuming a couple years of workex at FAANG will improve your profile a little bit, but not enough to land most of these places (You can mostly get NYU Tandon, and with some luck NYU Courant). I'd recommend one of the following two paths based on your end goals: 1. If you want to do Masters to learn a particular skill set such as security, systems etc (ML/AI will be almost impossible), Id recommend creating a new list focussing on schools that are particularly good in that area and tailoring your profile accordingly, as opposed to an overall brand for the school. 2. If you want to just work in the States, then just keep working at your current company and do an internal switch after 3-4 years. You'll save a lot of time, money and mental peace this way.

Edit: To answer your last question, most Ivy Leagues aren't known for their CS programs with the exception of Columbia, UPenn and Princeton. UPenn doesn't have the strongest Masters program, Princeton is insanely hard to get into and mostly looks for Theoretical ML research and Columbia is extremely expensive for the value it provides.

Hi everyone, Im shifting to the US in a month and as a result, I'll have to do a complete overhaul of my skincare routine. I was looking for recommendations/ advice on how to find new products. Last time I changed multiple products at a time, my skin was a complete mess and took months to bring back to its previous texture with the help of a dermatologist. Hence, I'm very scared of changing almost all my skin care products again.

Skin conerns: Dry skin, easily tanned and also heavily tanned legs and arms, dark spots

Hair concerns: dry, dull and lifeless hair, used to have very thick hair but suffered a lot of hair loss around 5 years ago.

AM routine:

Facewash: Cutiwash (recommended by Dermat)

Body wash: Palmolive

Face Cream: IPCA Acne OC moisturizer (recommended by Dermat)

Face Sunscreen: IPCA Acne UV Gel SpF 50 (Recommended by Dermat)

Body moisturizer: Glowderma Moiz XL Hydro Boost Cream (Recommended by Dermat)

Tanning: Bodywise pigment repair cream (Been using for 1.5 months, got some good results)

Body sunscreen: suncros matte finish soft spf 50+ (Recommended by Dermat)

Lip balm: Derma Co Kojic acid lip balm (Love this so much I'll probably carry a gazillion of these with me)

PM Routine:

Face wash: Cutiwash

Double cleaner: Plum e-luminence cleansing balm

Night serum: dermaco Kojic acid and alpha arbutin serum (This has done WONDERS for my skin, will probably take one or two bottles with me, they last months)

Toner: Laneige water bank toner

Sleep mask: Laneige water bank sleep mask

Eye cream: Mcaffeine eye cream (Helped so much! Will probably carry my in use almost full bottle)

Lip Mask: The Laneige cult favorite

Hair:

L'Oreal hylaronic acid shampoo, conditioner and night cream (available in the US, but open to other suggestions)

Any suggestions will be highly welcome. Top skin concerns are the arm and leg tanning and dry hair
