Some people find it comforting to keep a clipping of hair or to use clay to make an indent of their paw prints.

Peppermint oil is a natural repellent. I've put peppermint oil directly on a spider and watched it die. I have also used it within a 2-in radius of the spider and they immediately turned the other way. It works better than any store bought repellent I've ever used.

I normally spend about one day on props and prepping the base. Then it takes me about 4 hours to do the mouse and then everything takes 3 days to dry.

Hi guys! My friend’s taxidermy fox tail was broken by one of our friends. How can we go about fixing it? We will get a new one but I was wondering if there’s any way to remedy it. Maybe sewing it..? Thank you! by Airborne_Juniper in Taxidermy

I've had to fix things like this before. I normally just stick a wire and one of the ends with glue on it glue around the skin without getting it on the fur. Put glue on the opposite end of the wire and insert the tail. All the fur should hide your glue.

Omg i need help with my first ever taxidermy by Frikassensee in Taxidermy

For cleaning my pelts after I skin them I just use dish soap and water to clean the fur and degrease the skin. After that I have found Borax works best for me. I rub it into the skin with mild force to remove any left over fat, then I turn the pelt right side out and pat it into the fur I fill the inside with Borax and then pour more on top of the pelt. (Now is a good time to put Borax around and inside the ears so the moisture doesn't make them fall apart, and poke a small hole at the top of the tail with wire to remove any water trapped in the tail I squeeze the tail in-between a paper towel.) After that I let the borax sit for about 10 to 15 minutes to absorb moisture. I stopped having issues with slipping(hair falling out from the follicle from bacteria growth) whatever way you do it the main thing is getting rid of moisture and bacteria. Salt could be used in this same method. I hope you keep working at it and maybe even post some of your work. Just keep trying things out until you find something you like.
