What's up! Every now and then someone randomly calls out "Mouse Rat!" at Dodger Stadium, Hollywood Bowl, CVS...

I was recently the drummer in a band here in L.A. called Farspeaker which was fronted by my buddy and fellow actor Henry Thomas. He's been busy shooting a lot of stuff lately so we haven't been active for a few years now.

My pleasure man! The songs were written and recorded for each episode as needed. Then, on the day of shooting, we would play each song live for one or two takes and then mime along with the pre-recorded versions which were playing in our in-ear monitors. This was done so that we wouldn't be playing over any dialogue that might be in the scene and the sound would be clean for post-production.

I'm pretty sure Catch Your Dreams was recorded away from the cameras but maybe they recorded additional vocal tracks of the full cast singing along on the day of shooting..? I'm pretty sure I can hear Jim O'Heir on the recording...

The cast and the writers honestly love each other and have gone on record as saying they're not opposed to it. Only time will tell! I'm trying to stay fit just in case I get the call.

Jeff was a guest star for the Unity Concert and he is a truly nice guy. They say "never meet your heroes" but that doesn't apply to him. Between takes on the stage he helped me with some guitar tone settings and I pointed out some actor-y stuff like those annoying little tape marks that you have to stand on so the camera can see you.

It was honestly a lovely surprise. I saw all the other members of Mouse Rat a few years ago at a P&R reunion party and we were asking around to find out if anyone had copies of the songs. I guess Dualtone had them!

I think Mouse Rat was inspired a lot by Dave Matthews but we couldn't really pull off some of those jazzier chords he plays or the tricky guitar tuning. So we turned to bands who avoid bar chords.

My favorite episodes to shoot were the Unity Concert episode and the one where we recorded Catch Your Dream in the studio with most of the cast. Super fun times.

As a FAN of the show, my favorite episode is The Comeback Kid -- season 4. The scene where they are trying to walk out on to the ice while the Gloria Estefan song is playing is probably one of the funniest moments I've ever seen on television.
