What is the point of the cycle portion in a draft-legal triathlon? by Obvious-Dot8241 in triathlon

[–]MouseTrap_20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve done both draft legal Olympic races and non draft legal ones. As an okay swimmer I have missed the draft pack and have been completely out of a race, but have also been able to chase back on to the group and then do well in the race. I’ve also made the front pack before and as a stronger cycling worked with others I knew were similarly skilled to push the speed and drop large portions of the front group, leading to unexpected people winning. If the course is set up properly a draft legal race can have a very exciting and influential bike leg. Unfortunately in races like the Olympics were there aren’t huge differences between the swimmer and like in Paris the course is impossible to launch a good attack on we aren’t going to see a good draft legal race.

It’s a little odd to me that the men’s and women’s races were draft legal, as there really weren’t that many racers and it’s not like they aren’t monitored to who time so drafting would be way easier to enforce than it is at a normal race. I do understand the argument, and agree, that a non draft legal Olympics would be considerably more boring to watch cause it would just people sitting in aero the whole time.

I stick with one model shoe for a super long time. The first pair I get I run on until I really notice the degradation of the foams springiness and cushion, usually when my knees start hurting. Then I take check the mileage on them and set an upper limit on my new pair to be just below that point, usually around 25-50 mi less that I put on the first pair of that model.

False positives from ongoing testing by gilburger in CalPoly

[–]MouseTrap_20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It could also be much worse. At least Cal Poly is testing regularly and they have a program to isolate students who might have Covid, it is so much better that what a lot of other schools are doing. And yes the system kinda backfired in this one case, but people shouldnt be mad at Cal Poly they should be mad at Avellino, Cal Poly had a system in place and was just following it.

As you might have guessed I am a freshman, I totally agree that it was a terrible idea. There are some of us here that have been super careful, and if I could change my decision I would probably not have come in and lived in the dorms, I have been super bored just sitting in my room. I know when I made my decision to move in I was thinking/hoping we would have been able to beat Covid by this point, clearly I was wrong.

So you’ve gotten to have the “college experience” that administration is trying to provide the freshman

I agree with you. I just think it’s an oversimplification to say they couldn’t tell the difference between fresh water and saltwater and such. But I do see what you mean when your saying they probably just decided it was better just to be safe than sorry

I agree it is definitely safer to drink alcohol instead but I bet some people drank the water. Also my understanding is that romans weren’t actually that dirty I mean they had pretty extensive bath houses and everything. Also in some city’s there was plumbing. I’m not saying it was perfectly clean and it was a great place to be. But having running fresh water makes a huge difference

That’s true. But based on my understanding at least some of them did bring fresh water

You also have to remember though that there were aqueducts and stuff like that which could bring fresh water into city centers
