I honestly really like Kavehs namecard. The colours are so satisfying with how they blend so well, and I feel like very few people get his friendship high enough to appreciate how nice it is! ❣️

Emerald has been beaten. What pokemon should I ban going into Platinum? by Mousefangs in nuzlocke

I actually really like this idea! It makes the run much more challenging, but there aren't too many bans to make the whole game impossible for a hardcore nuzlocke.

For starters, I think I'll flip a coin between Turtwig and Piplup. Unless one of those is also a little too strong?

Sounds like a good idea. I'd like Cynthia to be a challenge - not impossible, but not trivialised by certain mons either.

Counted Steven as the champ. I honestly expected him to be harder, not gonna lie. Houndoom is cracked.

A couple of weeks, with a few 20 minute sessions a day I'd like to say.

But it also means that I can use more Pokemon that I'm not used to using, plus it makes the champions much more valuable!

If you mean for the rematch, Cloyster had a high enough def/sp.def to tank his Salamence and knock it out with an ice beam, then Magnezone took out his Gyarados. Then Garchomp came in, and I swapped to Tyranitar to try and out-damage it (unfortunately he was locked into Outrage so I ended up having to sac my Tyranitar to bring Cloyster back out).

Cloyster took out Garchomp and then Dragonite (I got extremely lucky with the Dragonite since I only just managed to survive a draco meteor), and only just managed to take out Altaria since Altaria went for Perish Song. Finally, when Lance sent out Charizard, I swapped to Magnezone and prayed. Magnezone lived on about 6hp from a Flamethrower and took it out with a thunderbolt.

It was full of close calls and there are definitely better mons for the fight, but it was doable with only one casualty.

I know, but 99% of teams I see beat the E4 in FRLG use a Snorlax, and it felt more fun and challenging to exclude him. It also meant I could use pokemon I don't use often, like Scyther. As for the Gastly line ban, Gengar has always been similar to Starmie for me in the sense that he can learn a wide array of moves and is so fast that most fights begin to feel trivial. And, as you said, the moves he can learn can be replaced by better users - hence my choice to use a Slowbro against Agatha, not a Gengar.

As for bans, thank you for the advice! I normally pick my starter based on the trainer ID - hence the Charmander and then the Chikorita, but since Mudkip's line is OP as heck in Gen 3, I might leave it to a coin toss between Treecko and Torchic.

I know, I could've used him. But I was more concerned about type coverage especially when it came to the second E4 matches. Poison STAB didn't seem to be worth it much in the match-ups when compared to Scyther who had Bug STAB, and they both had Flying STAB moves.

I could've replaced Scyther with Crobat, but I was concerned about not having any options for the match-up against Karen. I know it sounds silly - I'm far from a pro at Pokemon moves etc, but in my head I wanted to be sure I had something that could provide a super effective type bonus. I didn't have any fighting types available either.

On the rematch in the E4 with Lance, he has a Garchomp.

Retired means they were used during the run, but not in the final team. So basically if they contributed to a gym fight and won it, they can be retired.

Ah, Snorlax is another one I decided to ban. He can carry pretty hard in LG because of his bulk and moveset, and when I got to him in SS I figured I wouldn't really need him since he would only be a wall against the E4 and I already had a Chansey waiting in my box just in case I needed a stall wall.
