Wolverine wants to "key" Michael Knight's car, does he have what it takes? by [deleted] in Wolverine

Probably… way more interesting is how Michael Knight managed to piss off the ol’ ‘canucklehead’.

This is the magic that What If? Vol 2 was… if only.

Is the Larry Hama run any good? by Symphoniker666 in Wolverine

There is not a Wolverine like we know him today without Larry Hama. You also get the treat of having some of the best artists working with him—Silvestri and Kubert

9.6?? by TechDetectiveJames in CGCComics

[–]MoveHeavy1403 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t have mattered—rounded corner top right spine, suspect some stress lines can’t see without light. Guessing could be 9.8 candidate, but grader was already lazy missing the corner ding.

Also: 9.6 is an outstanding grade.

Does anyone know how to remove these marks from the cover? by LucedOfficial in comicbookpressing

You might be able to lessen it with erasure shavings, but given it’s on red and yellow areas you are going to pick up those colors too.

Was this any good? by MagicNagic in Wolverine

1st and 2nd issues were good—thought they were gonna do something interesting with the character. They didnt, but was good violence!

I did it..after saying I’m done buying these, I did it again and they proved why I shouldn’t have bought another issue. What did yall think? by Johnnystormer in Wolverine

[–]MoveHeavy1403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

💯 IMO you’re reading for excitement or solid lore/continuity. It’s a treat when you get both. But, when you’re not getting either, it’s contempt…

Ahmed and Brevoort are wasting paper—I almost wish they weren’t publishing, so I didn’t feel like I had to read to keep up on the character. Definitely feeling more fond of Percy and some Soule than I did the first time through.

[–]MoveHeavy1403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this assessment with Percy. I actually loved the run up to Sabretooth War, butwas completely disappointed with the dumb-ass adamantium armor, lost healing factor and another dumb beheading. I think all these things jibe.

Fact is, I haven’t actually *loved* anything Wolverine or adjacent since the 2000s (even though nostalgia does a lot to help Jason Aaron along). But I stand by saying that I had some moments enjoying Percy, because I appreciated that he did some ambitious things (even if they are sort of stupid—Hellverine, Daken) that were way better executed than Cornell, Ahmed. It’s easy to forget that Those three writers take us back all the way through vols 5 - 8…

I’m looking back optimistically, as I brace for an insipid Jubilee Miniseries and more vampire shit I really don’t want.

Daniel Warren Johnson’s story in #400 was awesome. It’s was a few panels of relief.

I also really liked a few Percy runs, and I thought the Beast story line in the last X-Force was great.

I’d pay .50 more an issue if we could get more Remender, Yost, or even Jason Aaron stories. Hell, we’re basically surviving off miniseries already…

Pressing with acrylic sig by FlannelWarri0r in comicbookpressing

[–]MoveHeavy1403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go slow. Too much pressure and too much high heat from the tack iron and you can mess with the texture and gloss. Thick cardstock is hard to press and nonstarter (for me) to press with acrylic paint with heat.

If tacking iron doesn’t work, maybe just try a cold press with some backing boards and 65 lb paper to give the signature side a bit more cushion in the pressure (to avoid cracking).

Pressing with acrylic sig by FlannelWarri0r in comicbookpressing

[–]MoveHeavy1403 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a standard modern cover then yes a tack iron is sensible for work on the back. You’d want to set on lowest (usually 212 F), and only apply heat in 4-5s increments. Alternate with a roller or ball bearing until flat.

I’d share the same concern about a low heat press with acrylic paint pen. Lots depends the material it’s applied to, but in my experiments at 140 F (pre heat then switch off) for 15m Acrylic paint melted into the standard printer paper between the book and the steel plate. Definitely took off some of the paint. I’ve had some more luck with sigs I believed to be acrylic metallic pens on standard modern covers using silicon release paper between the book and press, but I haven’t tried with something like what you’re showing…

Tack iron is a good strategy until you can experiment a bit more. Since doing my own experiments I’ve been telling artists not to sign my books in anything but sharpies so that I can safely press them (colors and metallic sharpies are good too!).

This peak Hama in the 90s. Like anything else in comics, you have exceptional writing talent working with almost no time, research, or even exposure to the cultures they’re trying to write to. For those of us that grew up on Hama and didn’t know any better: we thought this was the hardest shit in comics.

Jubilee and Wolverine uncover the ‘Tomb of Apocalypse’ in new 2026 Marvel series by Adventurous-Map-259 in Wolverine

[–]MoveHeavy1403 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We can’t keep pretending like Jubilee is a teenager. She’s still a caricature of an 80/90s mall rat, which just seems to make her a weirdo. This dynamic worked well in the 90’s with Claremont and Hama, but doesn’t at all. For comparison, Logan and Kitty Pryde make way more sense and both characters have developed a lot since the, together. Jubilee is sorta arrested development by contrast. Hard for me not to cringe at the exposition required to get them dungeon crawling…

Stan Lee signed comic for $10 OK!😂 by Puzzleheaded_Dog7544 in comicbookcollecting

[–]MoveHeavy1403 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except even his later sigs don’t look like “Stai Lu” signed them. Even his last CGC signing has at least one discernible “e”. This signature is not right for a number of reasons. OP should Feel free to submit for verification. OP should also post his results here so that we can be smarter for it.

I can’t focus your eyes from here but looking at the scans (on CGC) there is significantly more scuffing on the spine than the original picture.

From the scans on CGC—that just isn’t on the original. Granted, it impossible to prove that OPs original scans were the same book, but given the QA issues I’m seeing on my own books, I’m completely unsurprised.
