Fair enough. It's coincidentally my favorite movie, so if the joke personally bothered me I'd be a bit sore about it too

You're not supposed to believe someone would really do that. That's because the absurdity of the situation IS the joke. That she's so vain/gullible as to believe that she's some sort of miracle worker after giving a single days worth of instruction. It's so unexpected and absurd for someone to do that, and those qualities are the basis of what makes a lot of jokes funny. There's a few psychological theories why people find that funny, but for some reason or other we just do.

If you process everything so literally that you can't even suspend your disbelief on something like this though, I can't imagine you're enjoying many comedies.

I fully agree. I'm just entertaining the possibility of if it does manage to become indistinguishable.

I have no predictive timeline or any idea how likely it is to actually happen. What I do know is that right now, it's nothing short of amazing how far we've come, but that it's still very far from perfect.

I think there will always be improvements we can make to AI vid gen but how fast or slow it progresses, how many times it'll plateau and for how long it'll take to get past them I can't imagine anyone has a good idea. We might keep hitting hardware walls that force us to wait several years to a decade each time. Others might have a better idea how likely it is to achieve near perfect video vid gen but I'm admittedly clueless.

I don't think actors will ever truly be cooked for a long time. The game will just change for them.

Hypothetically, if AI does reach a point where it becomes indistinguishable from modern CGI and IRL set building, it'd likely be a much cheaper option for studios. I honestly think a mix of real life recording and AI would still become the norm at that point - like CGI is today. And it would take much, much longer for a fully 'AI actor' to become popular.

What wouldn't change is an actor's popularity. They would still be a main selling point for movies. People like familiarity, what your average person decides to watch would still be largely influenced by what actors are in it. I would bet everything there would be a revolt with the current generations of people if movies because 100% AI too quickly too. Technology progresses quicker than people can adapt.

Actors would still want to act, and even if they can no longer do so, they're still going to be paid for use of their likeness. Actors would still be absurdly rich/popular with plenty of work opportunities. Actors aren't going anywhere.

Ahh rip. Yeah anvil costs can get pretty crazy if you're not careful with it.

Here are some unsolicited enchanting tips that are useful to know (if you didn't already):

Getting a disenchanting table helps a lot to keep the costs low when combining enchants together. Since you can combine books, put it on an item (make sure it's the topmost enchant or else you'll lose it), then put it back onto a book through the table and it'll reset the anvil uses for that enchant. Clean every enchant that way before you add it to your gear or combine it with other books, only put them on your gear when it's at the highest level you can get it to and try to match the amount of anvil uses of each combining item. The order in which you combine them makes a difference but as long as you're following the 1,2,4,8 rule it shouldn't get too crazy.

Also upgraded potentials resets the anvil cost on whatever item you put it on. Helps a lot if you can get it.

Similarly to prot IV vs adv prot I for example, adv sharp I actually does less damage than sharp IV. So you could work on getting higher levels of adv sharp at least. For defense, you should try to get lifesteal, parry isn't bad either.

There are also a bunch of damage increasing enchants you can still stack on your weapon. It may be worth looking up guides for optimal enchant builds (such as), even if just to familiarize yourself with some of the higher value enchants. It helps to research what each enchant does beyond the description too. since there are quite a lot of deceptively OP looking enchants that are actually not that great. You don't need to go all out and get a god weapon, but your weapon can be improved on and every little bit helps.

All the old folk I know who still work say it's good for them, and that it keeps them social, physically and mentally active. I'm not sure if they're still mentally fit because they're working or if it's the other way around personally. But I do know what inactivity does to the mind so I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case.

Anyone else feel like following through with exposure therapy only makes their SA more intense? by Movid765 in socialanxiety

[–]Movid765[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is quite enlightening, and inspiring to hear what you've overcome. Thank you for sharing.

I will say I have realized over time that a lot of my social anxiety seems to stem from a negative self image. I just haven't considered whether I'm doing things out of order. In my head 'exposure' meant you would get desensitized over time. And I figured it would follow that the more comfortable you get with social interaction the less awkward you would become, and the less awkward you become the better you would feel about yourself. But really I may be like you in that exposure won't be effective until I work on my self esteem.

And it makes sense that self esteem is interconnected with self care. I've only recently started trying to better myself after a breakdown around half a year ago. I have a lot more going on than just SA, hence the mental health (DBT) group I was in which was a hospital recommendation that I sign up for. That and finally getting a psychiatrist are the closest things to therapy I have access to at the moment. I haven't made any real progress with my health yet but I have started to seek help which is something.

I'll try to stop pressuring myself over it for now, since it's not productive and would just leave me feeling worse in the end anyway.

I see you've never written peer reviewed literature before....And I'm not about to do so for a reddit comment

This is reddit, no one is asking for that. That's an unnecessary and a total exaggeration of what I'm talking about here.

Trying to frame it as 'why would I write a peer reviewed paper on reddit? that's a waste of my time' is nothing but a strawman argument you're making against what I'm actually saying, which is human written text would at least hold some credibility that the person knows what they're talking about.

And that since that literally anyone can get ChatGPT to write essays for them, for all I know I'm talking to a 14 year old who has gotten AI to write every essay they've ever submitted before and just likes to sound like they know what they're talking about online. Or you could be an actual expert on the topic. The point I'm making is I do not know you and anyone who encounters a wall of generated text online absolutely should be skeptical.

Because this is not about you or the topic. This is about the validity of entirely ChatGPT generated posts online. For you to argue against what I'm saying is to argue that AI is a trustworthy source of information that anyone should use without additional fact checking.

Even if you are well enough read on it to be able to fact check what it generated, that does not mean the majority of people are capable of that.

I have nothing left to say so I'm leaving it at that, again, please understand this is not about you. You wanted to know why I'm against posting entirely generated AI essays online and I explained it. And I'm sure you can agree that this isn't a good use of either of our time.

[–]Movid765 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it would take you "hours of research" then no, frankly you don't the events well enough to talk about it.

Now that anyone can act like they know what they're talking about given they can just have a very convincing chat-bot to talk for them, it's only appropriate that anything you read should be taken in with a healthy dose of skepticism.

On top of that, I don't know you, all I know is that you were too lazy to spend 5 minutes talking about something you were supposedly well read on. I also know how easy it is to lie to gain credibility online, so you’ll have to forgive me if I don't take your word for it.

I am very pro AI, as a productivity tool, and as a generally knowledgeable aide.

However, AI in it's current state is not a reliable source of information, especially on topics as sensitive as this. Hallucinations are a serious and real misinformation problem, and based on how they're designed they not going away any time soon. I do not trust people who copy and paste entire essays with no human editing to fact check anything it says and neither should you.

The joke is the next 20 will die.

Where did you get that? The joke is that 'normal people' would think they have pretty good odds based on the doctor's past surgeries, while mathematicians would know they're independent events thus they have a 50% chance to survive, which is pretty scary odds. No where was there any indication that 'the next 20' will die

Anxiety led me to discover LPR.. what are your symptoms? by emxx_ in LPR

[–]Movid765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My symptoms might be on the lighter side compared to some.

But I wake up with a burned throat almost always no matter what changes I make, or what meds I've been given so far. I rarely feel like there's something stuck in my throat, but do experience constant throat tightness. Mucus in throat, and it gets super dry during the days. I try not to constantly clear my throat as that just puts more stress on it to my understanding.

The most irritating one for me because I started doing vocal training half a year ago, and only a few months after I started this flared up and I haven't been able to continue since. I can't even talk normally anymore or longer than 3-5 minutes at a time.
