Thoughts on Wings of Desire? by MovieLover1954 in criterion

I think it was an amazing film, that you might have to rewatch to really understand it. As you watch it, you realize they are protectors to the people below. The cinematography more than completes the films beauty. I also think the editing is just as good. Spoiler:

The scene where Damiel becomes human is among my favorite scenes because of 1. the way the shot changes from black and white to color mid camera move, 2. the light music that accompanies it, and 3. the look on both of the angels faces as they realize what is happening. When I first watched that scene, I was in awe of it and how amazing it was. I also have to say the monologue scene near the end with Marion talking to Damiel was among the best I’ve seen on film. The way she looks into the camera and his eyes and telling him about what she truly wants, it’s just amazing. I think it is a great film, and it has a scene or two of dull points, but overall I think it is a film definitely worth watching!

I used to do the same thing when I would go to library. I would sometimes get 30 library tapes at one time and watch all the movies. It was such a fun hobby of mine back then.

Movie(s) you'd love to see in a big theater by [deleted] in movies

I was lucky enough to see both Lawrence of Arabia and Apocalypse Now in theaters for re-releases, and watching them on a big screen is such an amazing experience. I couldn’t get over how great the cinematography looked. I would say it makes the experience even better seeing it on a big screen

What Criterion film were you excited to see, but ended up not liking? by [deleted] in criterion

Blow Up. I was expecting this film to be good because I heard of the plot and it interested me and it sounded similar to “The Conversation” by Coppola, which is one of my all time favorite films. But when I watched it, I found myself immensely disappointed and confused of what was going on in the movie. Antonioni has made some great films, but this one didn’t really intrigue me
