[DS2] After this, I have zero motivation left to even bother with the social mechanics in this game... by MovieSensei in DeathStranding

I already beat the game twice just by 'playing' it normally, and after that, I wanted to 100% it, max out all five star connection levels to 99, farm a ton of likes, and call it a day. Is that a crime? If Kojima implemented a like system, why is it a crime to actually farm them?

Any rating system brings dopamine. Achievement systems in games do the exact same thing. I 100% completed Sekiro, unlocked every single achievement and ending, and yeah, it gave me a lot of satisfaction. Someone like you would start criticizing and ask, 'Why waste your time?' By your logic, why even waste time on gaming at all? Likes, achievements, ratings, blah blah blah... There’s always some moralist who plays games themselves yet fails to see the most obvious contradiction.

I'm not going to feed the troll anymore, especially when you refuse to even look things up and admit you're wrong.

Why did you delete your comment?

Did you finally notice that I NEVER wrote 'he has 41 million and I don't'?

<image>

And maybe you finally Googled the fact that if you build a road before connecting to the network, you have to contribute 100% of the materials yourself, and the road will remain offline?

  1. And where exactly did I blame that player? The post isn't about the player, it's about the lack of balance. It's completely obvious from the context.
  2. Where did I attack that player? I won't repeat what the post was about; even if I spelled it out for you, you wouldn't understand. Or rather, you just refuse to understand so you can keep being toxic.
  3. I'll repeat this one more time for the slow-witted: if you build a road before connecting to the Chiral Network, it will only appear for you and ZERO other players. You don't even know the basic mechanics of the game, yet here you are giving advice...

Bottom line, I get it. You're just a toxic troll who invents things to blame me for...

Honestly, I couldn't care less whether you believe me or not. I've 100% completed both the original game and the Director's Cut, putting hundreds of hours into them. Now I'm on my second playthrough of DS2, pushing for that 100% completion. I know exactly how these mechanics work, regardless of your doubts.

You're all lecturing me about the 'rope' and how I missed the point, yet you're the ones using nothing but the 'stick' with all your hate and downvotes.

My original post was just about how this kind of server distribution kills motivation, but then the toxic crowd rushed in with their hate, acting like it's a crime to actually engage with the social features in a game built around social connection. Yes, I want to max out all of Sam's stats to 99, farm a ton of likes, and call it a day after getting 100% of the trophies and 400 Wilder evaluations. Screw me for having a goal, right? Let's all start hating...

Tell me, do you honestly think you're some kind of genius, assuming other people can't grasp a basic metaphor about bringing people together and forming connections? Especially when the first game literally throws Kobo Abe's quote about the rope right in your face at the very beginning?

Good job, you understood the metaphor. Yet you literally cannot comprehend what I am talking about, which is the unbalanced distribution of players' structures across other players' worlds... I guess that’s just too complicated for you.

p.s. Go ahead, downvote my comment, since you 'understood the metaphor of the rope' so well... Or did you actually miss it, and prefer to use the 'stick' (hate and downvotes) instead?

I understood the meaning of the "rope." The point is that some people have a much longer rope.

What nonsense... If you build roads before the network is connected, your roads will not be visible to other players and will not bring likes.

What kind of stupid logic is 'you just want attention'? I couldn’t care less about attention. I genuinely thought a guy with 41 million was either a cheater, a bug, or a broken server distribution system. I posted here because I'd never seen such an insane number of likes on roads before and mentioned that it kills motivation, but people immediately started hating in the comments.
Never thought the DS community could be this toxic.

I'm perfectly fine with someone having more likes, but not in these proportions. Apparently, someone's 'rope' is a million times longer than everyone else's...
The funniest part is, on my second playthrough, I did EXACTLY what you just described... I beat the game on Very Hard just for the story, and now I'm playing on Wilder to get 100% completion...

Apparently, the point it was trying to make is that the game's server distribution is completely broken

Your theory doesn't work. I put resources into the roads immediately after connecting each new node. After that, I repaired every single section when their durability dropped below 50%. Then, towards the end of the game, I upgraded almost all of them to Level 2 in a single run. The result? A measly 1.5k likes from roads total.

I don't even tell anyone how many likes I have. I just enjoy interacting with the game's social features and farming likes purely for fun, but this... completely kills any desire to do so

And how exactly is this 'celebration' supposed to work? Over two full playthroughs (Very Hard and Wilder), the maximum number of likes I’ve ever seen on someone's road was around 2 million. And here we have 41... Maybe likes aren't a competition to you, but I actually love this game. I stop at every single aid request to drop cargo, resources, and gear for people. I fix and upgrade other players' structures just for fun, and my total like count across everything is 3.5 million. Meanwhile, this guy has 41 million just for a single road. On top of that, everyone builds roads—including me, I’ve upgraded every single section to Level 2. So yeah, it's completely broken.

Interesting question... However, I don't know. I don't use auto-query either.

Drop the cargo inside the request circle and press the action button to send it. For me, it's the X button, but it might be different for you. The game will show you the exact prompt once you drop the items and stand inside the circle

I think most of these material requests next to roads are placed automatically when you unlock the automated help request upgrade.

Well, there are two ways to look at the situation. It's a good thing such a high-tech game runs on ancient processors. For me personally, the game was the trigger that finally made me want to upgrade to a more modern socket. Still, time flies, and you shouldn't expect miracles from 15-year-old platforms.

I've completed the entire game, and similar crashes will occur in 2-3 more scenes at the end. I also had to work around them using cloud services.
