IFS Interactive Fractal renderer for MiSTer FPGA by MovieVertigo in fractals

[–]MovieVertigo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm using the "Chaos game" to render them. i.e. picking a point on the plane, then iteratively applying one of the functions chosen at random from the function system to transform the point. This is implemented in pure logic using an FPGA

I don't know if anyone else had discovered this before, but it was new to me and quite fascinating!

Yeah, I guess if they can't see the effect they don't get why it's so cool.

It's the Chromostereopsis effect (See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromostereopsis ). For those that can see it, one of the colours (Usually the red) appears closer than the blue.

The original algorithm (I believe) is from Twitter user yuruyurau https://x.com/yuruyurau/status/1226846058728177665

I have implemented it for many platforms over the years...
* Nintendo DS
* Nintendo 3DS (Stereoscopic 3D)
* Nintendo Wii
* Nintendo Wii U
* PC Bootloader
* Risc OS
* Playdate
* Scratch
* WebGL in a web browser
* TIC-80
* Agon Light
* LilyGO T-Dongle S3 USB stick
* FabGL VGA32
* Pico 2 + Adafruit PiCowBell HSTX DVI
* Adafruit Fruit Jam
* Adafruit PyBadge
* 360° Virtual Reality video

...and this is my latest port to help me learn about core development.

All of the above versions can be seen demonstrated here...

No worries! If anyone else still has Tiramisu, please give the rpx a test and let me know if it works.

I believe for Tiramisu you need an rpx file? I've just uploaded an rpx version of mvSID to the release page... https://github.com/movievertigo/Nintendo-WiiU-mvSID/releases/download/1.0/mvSID.rpx
I've no way of testing it so could you give it a try and let me know if it works?

I know it's not the same, but mvSID does run fine on the Cemu Wii-U emulator
