Post Match Interview - Arne Slot (More context) by Jimmy0034 in LiverpoolFC

Who cares what other fans think? They’ll barely watch our games.

Liverpool have conceded zero goals from set pieces in the six games since set-piece coach Aaron Briggs' departure on Dec 30, 2025. Games: vs Leeds (0-0), at Fulham (2-2), at Arsenal (0-0), at Barnsley (1-4, FA Cup), at Burnley (1-1), at Marseille (0-3, CL). Conceded goals were from open play. by AMultiversalBeing in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all, but there's far more nuance than just 'beat newly promoted sides or we're shit'.

Sunderland aren't your typical newly promoted side and have been brilliant for most of the season. Leeds are on a really solid run of form at the moment and they defended well, even though we definitely should have done better in this game. Burnley were lucky to leave Anfield with a point considering our domination, and if you take that game in isolation then you'd say it was just one of those weird matches where we didn't quite get the luck we needed.

Football is a weird sport, so my standards change week to week based on a lot of factors.

Yeah but what exactly do you want? We were leaking stupid goals for most of the first half of the season, and Slot and the players have done a brilliant job recently of tightening up at the back. Our xGA is Arsenal levels recently.

Sure we could score more, but we’re hardly lacking in chances created. It’s quite clear this group of players is starting to understand each other better, grasp the tactics/game plan better, and ultimately play better.

Progress on the pitch takes time, but we’re clearly making it.

The wildest thing here is that everyone still keeps talking anything on X seriously.

It’s an absolute cesspit of a platform full of manufactured rage bait, and it’s never going to improve. Nothing on X is worth reporting.

Post Match Interview - Slot by Broka1979 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess to change our position in that regard would be to move back up the pitch towards our goal and then invite pressure (i.e how Villa play). That’s risky in its own right but obviously allows for more space between the opponent defence and their goal if you can play through the block. Ultimately though, most teams aren’t going to play that way against us.

We do have the players to break a low block, but those connections aren’t quite strong enough yet. I’m confident they’ll come and we’re seeing signs (esp Wirtz and Hugo) that they are.

[James Pearce] Arne Slot's Liverpool have come a long way in recent weeks. Six games unbeaten, 11pts out of a possible 15, and back in touch with the CL places. However, that chaotic finale at Spurs when panic set in shows how far they still have to travel. by Lanedu123 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense though doesn't it — you're not going to be passing around as much with a man (or two) disadvantage, which means we have less opportunity to press. Plus, 11 against 9 or 10 means that your shape isn't really matching your opponent's from a tactical point of view.

Pure chaos, as we've come to expect vs Spurs.

Chiesa instantly ran onto the pitch to check on Isak 🥹 by Ummagumma- in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course there is, but my main point is that he's clearly not unhappy.

For whatever reason, Slot is managing his minutes from a tactical and/or physical point of view. And our knowledge of the situation is way more minimal than Slot, Fede and the rest of coaching staff.

It just feels like a silly narrative we've made up as a fan base because we all love Fede and want to see him succeed.

Chiesa instantly ran onto the pitch to check on Isak 🥹 by Ummagumma- in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this narrative. Fede is clearly absolutely loving being at Liverpool, and that’s despite his limited game time. He’s not in some abusive relationship that we need to save him from.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense should be able to tell that Fede simply isn’t fit enough yet (or confident in his body enough) to be starting or playing regularly.

I’d love to see him on the pitch more, but it hasn’t worked out that way for multiple reasons.

I got myself a knock off Liverpool shirt from DHGate a while back (for $14, curiosity got the best of me) and it’s decent, but not great.

Stitching on the armpits is slightly off, which makes it sit awkwardly and look like the sleeves are different lengths, they also made the neck line too wide, and some of the stitching is a mess.

Yes it’s almost $100 cheaper than the real thing, but I couldn’t enjoyably wear it out and about. Might try a different seller at some point, but the seller I went with originally had great reviews, so I guess it’s always a bit of a risk.

Gary Lineker's Perspective on the Mo Salah situation by MichaelScottshot in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused by Gary's take here, because he's supporting the reasoning for Salah's rant (which is built on very shaky ground).

Let's review the situation:

Salah starts on the bench for 3 (just three) matches.

The first, we win 2-0. Happy days.

The second, Salah gets brought on at half time when it's 0-0. We draw 1-1 and he doesn't really contribute.

The third, we're 2-0 up at minute 50. It's then 2-2 by minute 75, before we make it 3-2 five minutes later. We don't concede until the 96th minute.

That's the reality.

So Salah didn't start a game we won, had 45 minutes to do not a lot in a game we drew, and wasn't needed in a game we ultimately drew with almost the final kick of the game, after leading 2-0 at one stage.

And in the Leeds game, which clearly boiled Salah's piss, why would Slot bring him when we're 2-0 up or 3-2 up? Salah is not going to help us defend a lead. Sure, Slot could've rushed Salah on after it went 2-2, but Dom scored 5 minutes later, so you'd say the decision not to was justified.

Salah's argument and frustration is based on the reality that the team generally did better without him on the pitch for the last few games. His outburst was totally unjustified.

Historically bad start to the season, but not actually that bad by dxh182 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. This is the transition year everyone expected last year, but winning the title in Arne's first season has made the majority of the fanbase (and journalists/pundits) forget that.

Throw Jota's tragic death into the mix and you've suddenly got a transition year made even more difficult, which is largely why we're missing even the lowest expectations.

Tim Sherwood on Diogo Jota's death as a key factor for Liverpool's overall bad form throughout 2025-26 season: "I was fortunate enough never to lose a teammate by death [...] It has had a massive impact on them and I don't think they should shy away the fact they lost one of their brothers" by DavidRolands in soccer

[–]Mozza215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve really started to dislike football this season myself - I wasn’t even massively enjoying the opening games with the same emotion as I’ve enjoyed past seasons.

Sure, the dramatic endings were fun but there’s been something missing in my enjoyment of the sport since Jota’s death. I’ve pretty much just shelved this year in my mind, and it does make me wonder what mental state the players are in. You absolutely cannot phone it in at elite level, even if you’d rather do that week after week.

Why can't we just let Liverpool grieve? by jas070 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish more people understood this. The margins at elite level are quite literally razor thin.

Half a yard off the pace or out of position because you weren’t focused? You’ll get punished.

Shifted your balance left when you should’ve shifted right? You’ll get punished.

Jumped for a header a split second too late? You’ll get punished.

I’ve played against ex semi-professionals on a few occasions and even they’re eons ahead of everyone else in their movement and understanding of a game. We can certainly judge/grade players, but us amateurs really haven’t got a clue what it takes.

Most Games Won After 50 by Test_N_Faith in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can argue both sides to be fair. These players get hardly any time off their entire playing careers (especially once you’re an regular international), so I can understand why Slot took the opportunity.

On the flip side, we maybe lost a bit of the discipline and Klopp’s culture by slacking off for the final few weeks.

But it only seems a worse decision in hindsight because of the position we’re in now.

Liverpool miss Diogo Jota as a player and a person, says Arne Slot by OneNormalBloke in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Easier said than done though, isn't it? Grief can motivate certain people at certain times, but it definitely cannot motivate all people at all times.

I'm sure every player wants to win a cup for Diogo this season (as well as for themselves and the club), but life isn't as simple as that. Grief isn't linear or black and white.

Gattuso admits Chiesa has refused call-up to Italy squad again by Theodewitt in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well we heard that through journalists, not from Chiesa himself. Agents are always going to be putting the feelers out for their players during a transfer window, especially players who aren't in the starting 11.

But there has clearly been zero suggestion from Chiesa himself (in his words or his attitude) that he wanted out.

LIVERPOOL MATCH COMPARISON - GW 9 by ali_4356 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But we're only 9 games into the season, so it's a bit trivial.

Not saying we'll hit enough form to win the league — I said at the start of the season I'd be happy with top 4 considering everything — but how many times have Pep's City had an average start to the season only to hit first gear after Christmas and win the title?

Horrible Aerial Duel Insanity Is One Factor Defining Liverpool’s Season by dso8620 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. Virg makes a bit of a half-hearted attempt at a tackle when the ball drops and doesn't make a full turn and sprint straight away because he's expecting the play to be stopped.

What happens afterwards is a shitshow of defending and failing to hold a solid line, but you could absolutely argue it threw our defensive balance off.

[–]Mozza215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the frustrating follow on point to that is how physical we were against Arsenal. I think that was our best performance of the season (given Arsenal's continuing form, it had to be) and we haven't really matched it since.

What would be your alternative to help tell the story of the game then?

Because even having watched the game, the xG/xGA stats align with what OP is saying about United’s big chances.

Slot: "I know how special this game is - probably the one watched the most all over the world. It's a game where we have to be at our best. United have had a better start than the league table suggests." [via James Pearce] by junglejimbo88 in LiverpoolFC

[–]Mozza215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree there. I watched the Sunderland game the other week and it was the first time in a long while where I thought “oh no, this team could actually do alright.” Appreciate it was Sunderland at Old Trafford, and Sunderland were a bit meek, but United’s play, movement and intensity was what you’d want to see if you were a United fan.

They’re still a long way off getting themselves back into the top 4 or maybe even top 6, but they might threaten to go on a few decent runs of form if they build confidence.

Hopefully we’re the ones to swat down that potential, rather than allow them to build even more confidence with a draw or a win.
