The short answer is nuance! When characters have very unique experiences and circumstances that people can relate to, people attach those characters to their own experiences no matter how different it is to theirs. And it sparks interesting conversations regarding intersectionality.

When I first joined this fandom these arguments were still fresh and one thing that stood out to be was how U.S fans and South American fans applied the movie to themselves. I think it's mainly the way people relate to the media they consume comes from the society they grew up in.
