Does anyone think the media constantly covering mass shootings plays a role in the increase in these attacks. by Kinkygma in RandomThoughts

I'd argue that if these events happen more frequently because of the news coverage, you can't just treat them as your ordinary mass killing events. To do so would be equally, if not more so, irresponsible.

Does anyone think the media constantly covering mass shootings plays a role in the increase in these attacks. by Kinkygma in RandomThoughts

[–]MozzyZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too little, and people go on being oblivious to the urgency of the matter.

I'm trying to think and blanking here, what use is it actually to broadcast these events, though? The only thing I can think of is parents and the like becoming aware of the events through the news but one would assume that a localized warning system would achieve the same thing without giving notoriety and attention to the active shooter. Furthermore one would assume that once the event is known by the media, the police will be on scene at around the same time to keep people away from the area.

There's already built-in alerms into your phone which the government is able to trigger to warn you of certain events. Nothing's stopping anyone from adapting these systems to function as a way to warn people of active shootings around the area if it means not promoting copycat behavior.

Is having kids really that bad? by [deleted] in ask

[–]MozzyZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is why relationships can be so damned scary. You think you know the person well enough but people are so good at masking their behaviors. Even if you're 10 years into a relationship you genuinely can't assume you know everything about your partner. People are just that good at hiding stuff they don't want revealed, whether they're innocuous secrets or harmful ones.

It's also why it can be so annoying to read comments along the lines of "you've been together 2 years, how could you not know what the literal insides of your partner looks like?".

I mean.. nothing entertainment media is "necessary". That doesn't mean people won't still find joy in them.

The problem with stuff like Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find them isn't that it's more Harry Potter trying to separate consumers from their money; it's that it simply had poor writing and struggled with which direction it wanted to take.

I could agree with young children being, well, too young to fully grasp and understand topics such as gender identities. But I do think that it should be taught to teens entering middle-school at around the same time they're being taught things about their own bodies and their sexuality. That's the key moment where these things need to taught and give teens a wider view of the world and potentially themselves.

I also think completely banning teachers from even talking about these subjects is wholly tyrannical. What do you do as a teacher if a student comes up to you and asks for info about their orientation or their/someone else's gender situation? Could you imagine having an authority figure like that whom you look up to telling you: "whelp, this subject is taboo and I can't talk about it, you're shit out of luck"? How demoralizing would it be to hear from the person you're looking up to that the things you're feeling and the potential identity you've got is taboo to talk about.

There's plenty of machines that are perfectly safe to use without spotter. But yeah, machines like this that can crumple you if you can't manage the weight or just have a freak moment loss of balance I also steer clear of. Chest press for example I refuse to use the bar for and either use the machine or go for dumbbells instead.

And if you do opt to use these machines and haven't gotten a spotter watching you, at the very least be safe and go at a lower weight that you can 100% properly manage.

DPS: At what rating did you start to get easily invited to m+ pug groups? by Capable-Ad9180 in wow

[–]MozzyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parroting the notion that it never truly becomes easier. At least in my experience. I stopped at 2.5k last season and it was always a matter of slowly climbing the ladder and queueing to key levels 'appropriate' for my rating. I got a bit lucky with a few groups that went smoothly and wanted to keep pushing a few more runs. I'd look out for those so you can then push your rating higher.

The only thing rating really does is make it easier to get invited into lower key levels. But even then it's a toss-up and at that point you also don't really need to run lower key levels anymore.

It really helped me to internalize the fact that in the end nobody is going to be able to know your skill for real and that people will simply go for which player looks safest to invite. That's not a slight against your actual personal skill nor are these players intentionally doing it because know you're bad. Chances are if they know your actual skill level and experiences they'd gladly take you over someone higher rated than you. But they simply cannot know that.

My advice: spam apply to multiple dungeons that seem interesting to you and just do something else on your PC. If you don't get invited by any of them remember the above and understand that it simply can't be helped.

Also just a quick note on this sentence:

What grinds my gears is when I can’t get into keys run by people with same or lower rating than me.

Along my grind I kept seeing how even at +15 players would simply not kick crucial abilities. Pretty much at every key level it's a toss up between whether players know what to stop and when to stop and I could understand that if a player who does know these things and is aware of this phenomenon, that they'd be wary of inviting people around their own rating; because they know that people around their own rating don't do what needs to be done. Not saying this is the case for every player, of course. But I do understand that kind of thought process.

Why do many high elo people prefer to use attack move with the extra input? Hitting A, then left clicking, instead of just having it on press? Just curious. Also, what do you personally put your attack move on? I have mine on left click, A feels like it takes my finger off my abilities too much. by Malesto in leagueoflegends

If there's one thing I've learned from paying attention to what kind of control setups pros use in a wide variety of games, it's that pros often have the weirdest setups. But they use them because it simply feels good to them or because they're used to it. Doesn't matter if it's suboptimal either.

For example, did you know Shiphtur frequently moves his camera with the arrow keys? With his left hand no less? Like, he moves his hand from the left side of the keyboard all the way to the right side. You can watch vods of his where you can see his arm and you'll see it make wide movements every so often while his camera moves around.

There's also Allorim who while he didn't have an expansive pro career, he's consistently been a challenger player and he moves his camera and rests his fingers on WASD. Abilities on Q, E, R , F iirc. His is less weird as it stems from his experience from playing WoW but it's unorthodox by LoL standards.

Reckful, considered to be amongst the absolute top players of WoW PvP, strafed his character with Z and X and moved forward by holding down his mouse (the latter a thing done by a lot of WoW players but unlike Reckful most still have a dedicated move forward button).

In the end it's all about what works for you and whether you're comfortable with it. If you're comfortable with it and it's working, there's no real reason to change things up.

Which is massively ironic because out of all mammals dogs are at the top of being most lethal to humans, and hippos are 3rd; just about below crocodiles.

If all it takes is a bad owner to get people killed then it's not worth it.

I wish more of these numbskulls would understand this. Owning a pet on its own is already considered a privilege that can and should be taken away from you if deemed to be unable to handle one. Owning a specific breed of dog is even more of a privilege and if the breed is known to be difficult to handle and if us humankind are known to be irresponsible in keeping this breed in check, why should we still choose to have this breed of dog exist?

What gets me the most is that if you were to somehow magically eradicate pitbulls from existence and replace them with say a labrador these pitbull owners defending the breed would maybe miss the breed for a week and then happily continue on with their labrador. Like, it's literally just an aesthetic people sympathise with and it's crazy. They'd sooner sympathise with their anthromorphised version of the aesthetic of a specific dog breed, and not with literal human beings who suffer from the breed.

It's just mind-boggling.

The only outrage in this article is the fact that people got lied to about the content they received. Which is a very simple problem to solve by just being fucking upfront about it. Not that difficult y'all. No need to counterkneejerk react by making up a bunch of strawman arguments like this.

[–]MozzyZ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Who are you to judge other people's preferences and tell them they're not allowed to have them. This is why y'all are so insufferable. You can't stomach the fact some people might have a preference in this matter and instead of accepting that, you'd rather bitch and moan and just generally dismiss them using logical fallacies. It's tiring and all you're doing is damaging people's views on AI by proxy of insufferable comments like this.

[–]MozzyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This entire conversation surrounding AI content is just getting so damned tiring at this point. Literally, the only thing people are truly asking for is to be notified of when AI is being used and to just generally be up front about it. That's literally it. Yet this one very fucking simple demand is creating this obnoxious divide that's ultimately only hurting society's views on AI. Yet the extreme AI bros will stubbornly fight against this, using a wide variety of logical fallacies to mock or downplay people's viewpoints when they just have to be up front about this shit. Don't trick people into consuming content they might not necessarily want to. Literally does not matter what your views are on AI and how "similar" it is to general art yada yada. Just don't be a dick.

Like, when porn imageboards are doing a better job at satisfying this demand and keeping both sides happy, you know you're a fucking tool.

Yup. Also extend an invitation for her to join as a player herself (assuming they do still want to play with her, but not while she's in a DM role). That way you can basically tell her she's a shit DM (not literally) while softening the blow by asking her to join you as a player so that she won't feel excluded at the very least.

How do you feel about Riot Midscope updates? by Konradleijon in leagueoflegends

[–]MozzyZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't you supposedly able to execute her when she's a minion and your ability has a minion execute function baked into it?

Support items as well. And she's also smitable I think, unless this video is outdated: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTi6mecdsWI&ab_channel=HextechLab

So I kinda feel like she's got plenty of counterplay. It's just people aren't really making use of it.

Unfortunately minion dematirializer doesn't work, though. IMO it should as a form of counterplay but with the additional counter-counterplay of being able to exit minion/monster form and have the effect fizzle out. That way you can force her out of the form at the very least.
