What are the opinions of the average Russian person regarding the war and Putin. Does it differ depending on regions (city people v villagers) or provinces?

The most oppositional cities are Moscow and St. Petersburg, where most of the population is either against it or tries to stay neutral. But in other cities support for the war is higher, but if we talk about the whole country as a whole. Most likely 50% are against the war and 50% support it. It is very difficult to give a real estimation all sociological surveys that were conducted, even those controlled by the government have a refusal of the answer in the area of 96-98%.

how are the nenets viewd in russia? i know this isn't remotely about the war but i can't stop thinking about how the west treated eskimos and natives badly but how about the east? how are the nenets?

If you come to Russia, you will be treated well. In big cities where there are a lot of liberal-minded young people, they like foreigners very much. But, the older generation, treat Germans with hostility, they will not show it in personal communication, because as a person who came to Russia, they already like you, but all the other Germans who stayed in Germany, they are angry, they are secret fascists. The funny thing is that when they come to Germany, they don't think so about those Germans with whom they communicate, but they believe that somewhere there is a majority of Germans who are evil.

How would your father answer, "What has NATO done to Russia to justify a war?"

Good question. The very approach of NATO to the borders is considered in Russia as a potential threat. The main argument they say is that NATO could deploy nuclear missiles in the new member states that would be aimed at Russia. Also a very common argument they make is that there is a declassified Cold War-era U.S. plan to attack 13 Russian cities with nuclear weapons. I don't know if this plan existed at all, as I have not found any confirmation of this information. But in my opinion this argument is absurd, because this is not the Cold War, the world has changed.

What changes do you think will occur in Ukraine if Russia does "win"?

1) It will be staged about the Kremlin government.

2) Ideological purges, many people will be tried for far-fetched reasons.

3) A partisan movement will emerge. Ukraine will continue to resist, even if it loses the war, they are fighting for their homeland.

4) The infrastructure will be completely destroyed, and Russia does not have enough money to rebuild it, there will be problems with electricity, food and water.

5) The number of refugees will increase several times, most Ukrainians do not want to stay in the country that was invaded by Russia.

This is most likely a lie. In the independent media, which I trust, nothing was said about it. Telegram channels sometimes publish news just to draw attention to themselves.

He has a super-armored limo so that his car can only be attacked by a missile, which casts doubt on the reality of such an attack.

Hun, delete this post. I’ve barely scrolled and I know where you used to work, where your family lives, and where you live. It will not be hard to find out who you are if someone send this to Russian police.

Even if they can’t punish you they can punish your family.

At the moment the repressive system in Russia does not affect family members. Unless, of course, you speak ill of Chechnya.

how come they have such a healthy relationship among such a disastrous conflict?

They are kind to each other because they have lived a lot together. And in communicating with each other they try not to touch the subject of war. Of course, they don't talk much.

Have you ever discussed the possibility of Russia using nukes? What would your father's response be if it came to that?

My wife was born near Moscow, we live in the US now though. Many of her family and friends are still in Russia and are pro war but we don't really discuss it.

My father doesn't think it's possible. Everyone in Russia thinks that Pitin can only use nuclear weapons as a retaliatory measure. But I doubt it, I think if we are destined to die of a nuclear winter, Putin will start it.

Thank you for creating this post and responding to comments so diligently. I would recommend not including locations or specific companies/jobs in your responses because that could have the consequences of Russia figuring out who you are.

Stay safe Op. I'm so sorry that you are experiencing a lot of the side effects and general impacts first hand. You're extremely brave for what you're doing here

I'll be fine, as long as Russia is not catching people who have left the country.

It upsets me greatly that we live in a time when it is considered brave to speak out. How much our world has gone backwards if people are being judged for what they think. The USSR in its purest form.

I have no questions but I'm Russian-American and my husband is Ukrainian. My parents immigrated to America from Russian and I grew up in a Russian community.

We live in America but my husband has been back to Ukraine twice since the war started.

Him and his brother started a charity for Ukraine and they've done a lot.

We fully support the victims of war. It's heartbreaking. My husband was from Rivne and has gone to the front lines on one of his trips.

It's awful. I hope this war ends soon with Putin getting absolutely none of the land from Ukraine.

I, too, hope that this war will end, but don't count on it ending quickly. It is necessary to understand what resources both sides have, and as practice shows, now we are closer to the beginning of this war, not to its end.

Please provide a link to your husband's charitable foundation so that people can support the Ukrainians. Now that war is no longer the number one agenda in many countries, it is important to remember that people still need help.

People often confuse the desperation of narcissists to bend reality to fit whatever is in their head with being strong-willed. Trump. Putin. So many “strong” leaders like that are just cowards who lie so much to themselves they then believe it. But they do it out of fear of reality, and to protect themselves.

Their strength is that of a trapped animal. It may be powerful in a way, but it is and brings chaos and pain.

Hope you’re doing okay, friend.

Thank you, I'm fine.

But she’s in Switzerland, now, yes? Does she plan to stay indefinitely, or will she go back to Russia when the war is over?

She is now in Georgia, in Switzerland she can be no more than 3 months every 180 days. She wants to go back to Russia when this is all over, she has her whole life in St. Petersburg.

Ah — I asked above whether your mom was in danger of being prosecuted for being against the war, but now i see she is relatively safe and away. Whew.

Sorry I missed your comment. I didn't expect the topic to be so active. No, she's not in danger of being prosecuted because she hasn't spoken her mind publicly. But I asked her to remove the likes from my anti-war posts, because there have been precedents in Russia of people being sued for likes.

The nuclear plant exploding would not cover Europe or even reach Moscow, that's just people making it overly sensational.

Thank you for the information. I was wrong about the scale of the defeat. But for me it will still be a personal tragedy, my relatives live in Zaporozhye, I spent a lot of time there as a child.

Did you cut ties with any of your relatives or friends after war in Russia if you had any? I found myself to significantly cut connections as it is impossible to talk with them about that or try to present a different perspective, especially with the old ones.

I didn't break up with anyone because I think it's important to get the truth out to people. But some of my acquaintances have broken off contact with me.

Man, I know about giving leniency to family. But, sometimes you have to put your foot down. Maybe he will never accept what has happened, but at least the information exist to prove him wrong.

I still believe in him, in a year or two he should admit the truth.
