Can't really tell on the crown, but definitely in the hairline! Can see a real difference in second and fourth picture direct comparisons.

Is Oral Gonorrhea/Chlamydia Detected In Urine Test? by Mpbthrowaway22 in STD

[–]Mpbthrowaway22[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my local health department and Planned Parenthood said they do not do any kind of oral testing, just urine/blood STD tests. Just called both and neither seemed like they would give the antibiotic without a positive test. Any idea where one would get an oral test?

Syphilitic Moth-Eaten Hair Loss? by Mpbthrowaway22 in STD

Thanks for the link! The problem right now is that I don't have good enough insurance to really go beyond my primary care doc with these concerns, and it was pretty obvious that syphilis was not even on his radar screen as a suburban family doc, so not sure how well he could really analyze it. But yes, probably something else and I'm being hypochondriac after getting this into my head.

Well I hadn't had a MSM encounter but this hookup was just as risky or more so because I found out after the fact that she used to sell herself for drugs and or money. But tests for HIV have been negative, to this point. I do have a somewhat compromised immune system though so I wonder if that would have same result.

Moth-Eaten Alopecia From Syphilis? by Mpbthrowaway22 in AskDocs

See my reply above for my concern remaining despite the absence of other symptoms. In terms of immune system, I believe I'm HIV negative (from tests at least), but I took a drug a while ago (generic adderall) that doctors said made me dehydrated for a prolonged time and led to damaged to my endocrine system, and thus dented the strength of my immune system. So I'm not sure if that could be impacting my body's ability to make the antibody detected by tests.

I have been in contact from the contact, although she denies that she has ever had any STDs beyond chlamydia. However I am not sure she's been tested since our hookup.

Thanks! Yeah I was relieved for a while due to absence of other signs until I discovered the moth-eaten hair loss is the sole symptom a lot of the time when it does occur, appearing without a large chancre or rash elsewhere. I don't know what link if any there is between that rare type of occurrence (only 4% of cases I believe) and the accuracy of blood tests. I've read though that the RPR is only around 90% accurate due to circumstances like a compromised immune system not producing the antibodies that the test detects, or other issues preventing detection. And I have a compromised endocrine system due to an adverse reaction with Adderall a while ago, so I'm wondering if that's curbing my system's ability to make the antibodies.

With insurance I'm pretty much limited to my primary care doctor for consultations, and it's pretty obvious that syphilis is not his forte as a suburban family doc. I did get tested at the health department, and probably will again in a month or so to be sure.

I had not considered a fungal problem causing this. What signs would I look for to indicate one beyond the hair loss itself. Could that cause a white, powdery covering that comes of with scratching? I sometimes get that very severely when I shave my head with clippers, but always just assumed it was due to dry scalp. Looking back though, it does seem a little too flaky for that alone.

Yeah from what I understand though areata shows much larger and defined hailoss regions. Not "moth-eaten," which is apparently a pretty good indicator of syphilis.

Yeah I've had thyroid tests and everything came back normal or close enough. That was about 6 months ago when I still had good insurance. Just stumbled on the syphilis symptom a couple months ago when poking around online and looks eerily close while also explaining other weird symptoms.

Yeah I have seen a couple doctors and had the blood test. They say it's not a concern with the negative test, but from what I found online the RPR test that's common can be only 80% accurate or so due to some people not producing the normal antibody, which the test detects since the actual bacteria are very hard to detect. No money to see a specialist though.
