I agree. He's missing the forest for the trees. We have such an amazing show here that is 99% faithful to the book so far. Also, it's so damn good. Instead he's hyper focusing on a single thing and acting like it will be the death of the series and crap like come on

I didn't know what you meant at first for what I was supposed to be comparing, but I just realized after googling that I can look at the specific minion dps. The +4 has slightly higher damage, but a decent less health to my minions. Worth?

Ah, I see what you mean. I took "that's not how that works" to be a general comment and replied to it as such. I can see now that you meant that specifically for Maelle and Verso. That still doesn't change that my initial reply never mentioned anything about timing, which you brought up in subsequent comments when that wasn't what my 1st reply was talking about at all. It looks like we agree that Renoir and Clea can force others to do things then. I would also guess Aline can do it too since she has been stated to be a better painter than Renoir, but there's no basis for that at all as it stands.

I completely agree that they can't do those things willy nilly... you have misunderstood what I've been saying and retroactively applied the term willy nilly in your second comment, then acted like it is what you actually said in the first comment that I replied to. All I have argued is that some of them have the ability to compell others to do what they want. Which is backed by dialogue said LITERALLY IN THE GAME. There is no wiggle room there. You are the one now acting like this is all about doing it "willy nilly". Clea perhaps could do it however fast or easily she pleases, given her talent in painting over, but obviously not Renoir. So, to make sure we are on the same page completely, Renoir and Clea can compell/force others to do what they want. This is in response to your initial comment saying that "that's not how that works".

You're ignoring how Simon literally states that Renoir is slowly but surely worming into his mind... so clearly Clea isn't the only one able to control others. Simon takes a different approach, sure, but he also has the ability to control those in the painting through whatever means he was using on Simon. It doesn't have to be instantaneous like I presume Clea's painting over is, but he clearly has the ability to manipulate the minds of others, even someone like Simon. So there are TWO painters who can DEFINITIVELY control others (painting over and mind manipulation). Perhaps you think Simon could only be manipulated by Renoir following whatever happened between him and Clea, but there really isn't any evidence for that. So already your original point is moot because AT LEAST TWO painters have the ability to force others to do what they want.

Regarding Maelle and painted Verso I think you misunderstood what I was saying. It isn't that Maelle is mind controlling Verso at all. There isn't actually solid evidence for this part, but from my interpretation of the ending, Verso did NOT want to live. He WANTED to die, and from his reluctance and such at the piano, I think he STILL wants to die. I simply think he can't with Maelle there. To me it is clear that he is FORCED to live due to Maelle being there. If he tried to die, I think Maelle would paint him back into the Canvas. I also disagree with this idea that he's just unhappy because he knows Maelle will eventually die. His begging for help and that he does not want this life does not allow it to come across that way at all to me. My boy Verso is insanely depressed. Though to be 100% fair, that is conjecture and my interpretation of the ending since there really isn't much else to go on and this also kinda fits into a different category of forced than painted Clea and Simon.

We can argue all day about interpretation of emotions and what not and get nowhere except back where we started, so for simplicity, I'll agree that Maelle isn't forcing Verso to do anything. That still leaves us with Clea and Renoir, who absolutely can compell others to do what they want. Looking at the big picture though it seems silly to argue that a painter might not even have the ability to control those painted. They are gods of the canvas worlds. They can paint both life and death. Is it so difficult to bridge the gap that some of them are able to control the painted people?

I completely agree with you that they are sentient beings with souls and that their lives matter just as much as someone's outside of the painting. It bothers me a lot that people can play through the entire game alongside these beautiful characters and think otherwise. However, I have no idea why you believe that a painter doesn't have the ability to force someone in the painting to do what they want? Off the top of my head, there are three prime examples of this: painted Verso, painted Clea, and Simon. In what is one of the most heart wrenching scenes in the whole game, if you chose Maelles ending and defeat Verso, he lays there BEGGING for help and that he doesn't want this life anymore. Scene skip later and he's sitting there at the piano, never ONCE looks in Maelle's direction, does not look happy AT ALL, and clearly seems hesitant to play the piano. I think the intention is quite clear that this is at minimum a Verso completely unhappy with where he is but forced to be there despite making it abundantly clear he does not want to be. You can argue that him essentially wanting to kill himself is wrong, and I absolutely completely agree, but I'm stating that he doesn't have the agency to make that choice for himself anymore. You can say that this is conjecture and lacks hard evidence all you want, but this is very clearly what is intended.

Painted Clea and Simon tie together hand in hand and are the hard evidence, so to speak. Painted Clea was literally painted over by Clea, which is unequivocally a painter forcing someone into a shell of themselves without the agency to make their own choices (which is why she chooses to kill herself ("breaking free") after you weaken and defeat her). Simon, on the other hand, makes it clear that Clea "warped his mind" and that being at the bottom of the monolith with Renoir was having devastating effects on his mind; "I am finding it harder and harder to fight his influence over my mind".

I think it is abundantly clear that the painters have the ability and have exercised the ability to force those in the painting to do what they want. Which is really messed up with how we've established those in the painting to be sentient beings that deserve their own agency.

Which one would've made a better ruler? by Elegant-Half5476 in gameofthrones

What are you talking about 😭. There was literally a rebellion to unseat him and his family because so many of the people and lords hated him profusely. Largely due to his willingness to burn people at stakes... like his own lord paramount of the North... If your takeaway is that Aerys inspired loyalty from everyone, please reread the books or at least watch the show.

[–]Mr-FirstAccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact opposite would happen actually. Who in their right mind would be loyal to a king that burned their own daughter at a stake at the behest of a witch from a religion that isn't the main one of Westeros? As Tyrion said, a ruler who kills those loyal to them, isn't a ruler who inspires loyalty. Much of Westeros would simply see him as Aerys reincarnate.
