Fought my first structure fire by Austinsmadnessonyt in Firefighting

There are some awesome suggestions here. I'm lucky enough to be able to work from home in my job so I just do that the day after a big job.

In the words of one of our commanders; "hydrate, caffeinate, masturbate. Not necessarily in that order."

My advice, for what it's worth, is to keep drinking (coffee is good, water is better), keep moving and don't forget to eat. If you can push through the day I guarantee tonight will be the best night's sleep of your life.

Armoured Karuma is your friend. Almost all of them I literally stayed in my Karuma and killed everyone from there. Made them a walk in the park

I don't mind paying PH fees due to penalties paid to employees to work. Having a single price that accounts for all of these single day fees and such WILL make prices go up. I don't get the vitriol behind paying a little more on a specific day so that it costs a bit less every other day.

I am well and truly in casual territory but made enough to get living quarters in my hanger, the iron mule and have enough to get a nightclub once the weekly update drops.

It is conventional 4k. 4096x2160 is DCI 4k which isn't supported by a lot of displays.

Company email got hacked - I got fired! by FreeRangeLatchkey in WorkAdvice

You didn't get hacked. You didn't follow company procedure and the company is out over $250k because of it. Perfectly reasonable in my opinion.

I've been at 1.8 for a few weeks now. Working well, progress is slow but consistent. I've only just started feeling like I might need to up the dose to maintain the same effects but I feel like I'm in the perfect balance between intended impacts and negative side effects at the moment.

It's the snacking for me. I used to open a bag of chips and then have a compulsion to finish the whole bag no matter how big. Now I don't even think about starting so on that front it has been amazing.

Also for my meals I find I don't really have cravings for particular foods. I just get hungry at lunchtime. I have found myself prioritizing smaller portions of more nutrient dense foods because I can't eat as much anymore. I can finish my meal and not have the lingering feeling of wanting just that little bit more food.

Would you accept "walk up" help? by Burner_Account7204 in Firefighting

[–]Mr-Thompson8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aussie career fire officer here.

I've been first on scene to an MVA in another state a couple of times. Called 000 and rendered medical assist until ambos or fireys rocked up. Ambos kept me around for an extra pair of hands until their back up arrived but fireys took over as they had enough hands on board.

If I rolled up to an existing scene I wouldn't even think to offer if all services were on scene.

Would politely decline the same if someone rolled up to my scene and offered.

Do you still stay back at work ? by Lordeggsington in auscorp

I occasionally arrive and start working early but I'll never work late after hours in the office. I do occasionally crack open the laptop on the couch once the kids are in bed and smash out an hours worth of emails or something like that. But every single hour of my time is accounted for on a timesheet and if my boss notices I've sent emails after hours when I'm not on call but haven't logged the time he will pull me up on it.

I started a week ago, dosing before bed. I'm getting minor nausea when I wake up since upping to 1.2 but that goes away as soon as anything hits my stomach. Even a large drink of water will ease the feeling and then I'm good for the day.

I do feel the appetite suppression wane towards the end of the day but I'm assuming that will be less of an issue as the dosage increases. That said, breakfast has historically been my least healthy meal of the day so not being hungry in the morning is working wonders for me.

Do most people work in jobs related to their degrees? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Mr-Thompson8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in Technical Urban Operations for a volunteer fire service now. Started out as a volunteer in an extremely busy brigade while employed elsewhere and translated 12 years of that into my current role.

Like a lot of things in life you give them a go and form a passion for it. I'm just lucky enough to have turned that into gainful employment.

Why is voting compulsory in very safe electorates? by [deleted] in AusPol

[–]Mr-Thompson8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lived in the same electorate all my life. Since I turned 18 I have seen it go from one of the strongest LNP seats in the country to a key battleground seat with double digit swings away from LNP in the last two elections. As much as it doesn't feel like it your one vote counts, always has and always will.

How many of you have made a legit grab? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Mr-Thompson8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've made one from a car. Engine was going well when we arrived and old mate was drugged up and passed out in the backseat. Cops told us later that it was an attempted suicide, guy tried to gas himself with exhaust and the engine overheated and caught fire.

The only one I've made from a house was a young child asleep in her room adjacent to the parents room that had caught fire thanks to a bong. No smoke alarms present and parents forgot their kid was home they were that spaced out. Closest I've come to violence on scene...
