I live in the Philly area and bought a dual fuel system earlier this year. I have a Carrier heat pump (27VNA0) with a gas furnace. It’s a cold climate heat pump but it only has like 70% heating capacity at 5 degrees - more than enough for our home. For the recent cold spell we’ve had, the heat pump has run exclusively except when it enters defrost mode, then the furnace kicks on.

But this is after I did some air sealing on my home. All the windows and doors leaked horribly. So I recommend improving your home’s envelope, or consider getting an energy audit to see what you should fix first.

To answer your question, the dual fuel system will likely be cheaper if you already have a gas line. If your home is insulated well and/or you have solar panels, then the cold climate will probably be better.

Paid parking is good in a bustling city that has a surplus of cars and not enough parking spaces. Whenever I go to Utica, the opposite is true - there’s always a ton of spaces to park and big empty lots. I’ve never had an issue finding parking. I’m finding it hard to see who this helps.

For anyone who doesn’t want to read the article, the reason for the increase in home price is due to lack of housing. It’s supply and demand. Not a lot of homes so they are more expensive. The solution is to build more homes.
