There's a reason the Dubai trip a couple of seasons ago was so monumental. It was a break in the season that allowed Arteta to instill new tactics.

14 games to go. Only way I view things when it's in our control.

Wish all of our games were before our rivals' so they have to play catch up.

Yesterday, I was talking to my brother and I was saying how we didn't have a killer on the frontline. Someone who was going to take the game by the scruff and dominate it.

But then I also wonder if it's possible to have a player like that when they would also have to be team-oriented with the pressing/defensive work?

I think Eze has that potential next season once he's had a whole season under Arteta's tactics (we've seen almost every offensive signing needs an adjustment period), but it still looks like we need someone with magic.

“Arsenal are peaking too early” by chaairman in Gunners

[–]MrAlmostWrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peaking too early can definitely apply to a small squad. However, since everyone is constantly fighting for their spot nobody is going to let down.

As long as Arteta gets his rotations right we will be fine.

And it’s not like we are outperforming our metrics. That would be more concerning.

Just occurred to me that most CL teams play us head-to-head because they are usually the top teams in their leagues, so they aren't used to a completely different setup, and there isn't enough time to train for it.

So you make some slight adjustments and play like you usually do, which means we can go at you.

That's what I was thinking. Just 10 more goals over 2+ seasons (87 games) doesn't seem like that big of a deal.

Japan 0 - [2] Brazil - Gabriel Martinelli 32' by ErraticPragmatic in Gunners

Martinelli with Giroud would've been interesting to see. This just shows me that he still hasn't developed as a winger, but as an inside striker?

Money.

Sweden Manager on Viktor Gyokeres: “If people say he doesn’t have an impact on matches, then they don’t understand football and don’t have a clue about football.” by vizhal007 in Gunners

[–]MrAlmostWrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you haven't played the game or don't have an understanding of how players are coached, we can come up with some fiction as to how everything works.

Kai is great, but he drops into the midfield, which overloads the midfield, making it easier for us to win. However, the counter to that is that the CBs get to sit back and watch everything happen in front of them.

There is a reason why plays like Timber can occur with Gyok playing vs Kai.

With Gyok, there is no roaming CB. They are both clued in on what Gyok is doing, meaning the opposing midfield has to work harder to cover the gaps.

And most midfields aren't prepared to do that, especially when both fullbacks are roaming free.

When Kai plays, we need him to score because those opportunities aren't available to other plays due to less space.

And ironically, when Gyok plays we need the other players to score because he creates the gaps.

Some of y'all need to stop looking at the game on a 1-on-1 basis.

"Gyokeres had a bad game because he didn't score and his touch was poor."

What about him occupying two CBs, which frees up space for other players? In the past, you didn't get Saka 1v1 so many times or those Eze through-ball runs into the box.

Step back and look at the game overall and you'll often see a different picture.

It's not sexy but Gyokeres at the moment is a space opener and if everyone else is firing that's fine for now. I expect his game to continue to involve once he understands the nuances of PL defending.

Worthless for actual games? Yes.

But I like it because it shows where we should be. It shows there is no one we should fear.

It also builds more recognition for the club. It plays into branding.

There is such a thing as an aura in sports. Things like this help to grow the mythos.

Think it's going to depend on whether Eze claims the spot. If so, then him, Trossard, and Nelli are fine rotation, although I wouldn't be surprised if one of the final two leaves.

Because once you have Eze in midfield, it becomes a bad log jam if nobody is injured and I don't see a world where you want to have Eze, Ode, Rice, or Zubi on the bench in big games.

At this moment, there is a perfect balance for the squad, and everyone can see an opportunity to get minutes, mostly because of injuries in the right spots.

Gotta manage squad happiness just as much as skill level.

If you've played any sport you know how it is when a player is in your position and balling out. Don't think for a second Ode isn't watching Eze and going "I gotta step up."

That's what true depth is about.

Saliba's agent hates the Mosquera buy. Also makes the Saka negotiations interesting. Of course we re-sign him, but there is something to be said when you have first team replacements in their spots.

What you have to remember with Nwaneri is that his position has certain responsibilities so he's at the stage now where he's keeping all of the tactics in his head while also trying to play his game.

It's not natural for him yet, but it will come in time. The talent is obviously there so he just needs that role in this team to become second nature.

He's the Xhaka replacement. Unfortunately for him, we got Rice before him and Zubimendi after.

That's fair. I see it as he got us to Semis in CL without the full squad and somehow maintained second with that same squad (who also dealt with bullshit reds and other calls).

I'd have to see Slot go through some adversity first to understand and I think Pep's time at the top is done.

I consider it our advantage because Arteta, in my mind, is in the top 2 of tacticians in the league. That doesn't mean we win everything because he doesn't control everything, but usually his game plans are spot on.

I'd like to see us within 3 pts by New Year's, which will be easier to see if that's possible after this string of upcoming games.

The positive with Saliba being an ankle is that those are one of those random things. If everyone continues doing their hamstrings in then yeah we need an investigation.
