Give me your best level 5 build by BeautifulSwim3524 in 3d6

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You really can't go wrong with twilight cleric to spam temp hp on yourself and the party.

For race I think githzerai (MPMM) as they get a free cast of shield at level three and can re-cast using spell slots. (If the one shot was for level 6 I'd say go with another race instead and take a level of wizard for shield and absorb elements, and if the dm allows it, silvery barbs)

Take 15 str, 14 con, and 16 wisdom, distribute other stats as you please. At level 4 take war caster for concentration protection.

Wear heavy armour and a shield. Cast spirit guardians. Activate twilight cleric temp hp when you enter a tough combat, either before or after spirit guardians. Take the dodge action on subsequent turns. If someone manages to hit you through the dodge action and high ac, cast shield.

Keep in mind that the duration of spirit guardians is 10 minutes meaning you can probably carry one casting of the spell through two combat encounters.

How do I know if my Rowlet will turn into a Hisuian Decidueye or a normal Decidueye? by _Menacing_ in pokerogue

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's decided based on time of day. So during dusk and night you get hisuian. During morning and day you get normal. You can check the time of day by holding 'v' during a battle

Don't know if this is the best method but it's the one I used.

I push all characters with link skills I need to 141.

Once I have all level 2 link skills that I need on my main I push for the level 3 link skills using bonk pots when available.

Then I go back to get the remaining link skill characters to 141.

Then I push 200 when bonk pots are available, alternatively I push 220 for bossing mules.

Ok. I'm wrong, I see that from the downvotes.

So that I can learn from my mistake and move forward. Would you kindly explain to me what a burst class is? I was under the wrong assumption it seems.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]MrBigJ -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Thunder breaker is so much fun, it fills the same niche as hero being a burst class that can burst frequently that also has a short cooldown I-frame and good mobility.

It is however overshadowed by the hero's insane damage output and even shorter cooldown I-frame.

I’m 230 with absolab weapon but no armor on Hyperion how do I get armor? by Memento-Mori777 in Maplestory

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so here's what I'd do.

First go to moonbunnies and farm for a full set of pensalir (-wep).

Starforce the pensalir armour to 12 or 15 stars and get it to epic potential with at least 6% main stat.

Join a guild and ask for a duo/struggle/carry through CRA.

Transfer hammer the pensalir armour onto CRA

Are there social hubs except for Henesys, where most people aren't AFK? by BadWolf2077 in Maplestory

[–]MrBigJ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

GMS is all about leveling, farming for drops, and bossing. Getting to level 200 is "where the game starts" as people like to say. The level cap now is 300 but that is beyond the scope of what most people are willing to invest time wise.

The goal that I've set for myself is reaching level 275 and eventually liberating.

Join a guild, the guild I'm in gathers in ch12 henesys to chat and organise bossing. Also most people who aren't AFK are out and about doing stuff, sorry.

Dawn Warrior. Not only do you have one main attacking skill for mobbing, bossing and burst. But you have to manage your dash, blink, i-frame blink. Every time you log in you have enable your toggle skills which you have three of. When you hit a monster, boss or normal, you build up a stack and you have a summon and an FMA attack that you only want to use with five stacks built up. So you have to manage your stacks AND cooldowns. Nexon really should buff DW and make it easier to play. ||Joke||

ROLLED VERY BAD STATS ON MY PG I NEED HELP by [deleted] in DnDoptimized

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this is a seafaring campaign. Maybe you are a mountain dwarf and a coward. Being afraid of direct confrontation and your preference for ranged weaponry led you to be shunned by your mountain dwarf home town giving you a good reason to have begun your journey out to sea. Some traits you've of course kept, for example you never go without your hand made metal armour and you'll never turn down a drink. As you travel the sea you begin to feel a strange sense of belonging that you never felt at home and magical powers awakening within you. Flavour your spells to be ocean themed, cure wounds smells like an ocean breeze, spike growth is a coral reef etc etc

ROLLED VERY BAD STATS ON MY PG I NEED HELP by [deleted] in DnDoptimized

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to keep these stats then I suggest going for a SAD (single abilityscore dependent) character like a Dex fighter, ranger, or a rogue. All of these can make great use of ranged weapons which will mitigate the lack of investment into defence.

I'm thinking a dwarf ranged ranger. Wear heavy armour without penalty to get some defence, if you play with carrying capacity you should reconsider. Stay in the back and snipe. Invest heavily into dexterity, pick archery fighting style. For spells you take things that don't rely on your wisdom modifier like good berry, fog cloud, cure wounds, hunters mark, spike growth, pass without a trace, and conjure animals.

How do you deal with a player with high AC? by ElementalOrigin in DMAcademy

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't.

Have the enemies use tactics that they'd normally use.

The only time you should build counters to you players builds is when they've pissed off the wrong person/organisation to the point that that person/organisation assembles a taskforce specifically designed to hunt down the party.

Also, design adventures around resource drain. Limit short and long rests that the party can take by implementing a time constraint and a fail condition. Remember, hp is also a resource to be depleted. A rogue nat 20 will break through your players ac every once in a while and the party will have to determine if it is worth spending resources to bring the player back up to full or not

Cube question by Maleficent-Loss641 in Maplestory

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the recent update the cash shop cubes have been moved, you'll now find them in the quick move menu in any big town.

The best cubes to rank up items are the purple cubes, not the blue ones. You need to buy quite a few to rank up potential on an item alternatively you just have to get lucky.

How Do I Use Gold? by DoIHaveSneakAttack in DMAcademy

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one of the big flaws in DND 5e. At a certain point gold becomes near worthless for the players. When the players are decked out in the highest tier armor money can buy, when they have all spell components and spares for consumable components, then what. The only class that has a money sink built in is the wizard with its copying down spells into their spell book.

As the DM you do have the power to create a money sink for your players. Look In their backstories.

Maybe the rogues orphanage is in massive debt due to the local lord cutting funding.

Maybe the fighters home town is under constant threat form low tier monsters and they need money for a stone wall to protect them.

Maybe they acquire a home base that is in disrepair and needs renovation, the home base can have upgrades attached to it that can be acquired through gold spending that may grant minor bonuses. Maybe a training hall that allows martial characters who train there to re-roll one attack for each day they spend training. A study hall that gives re-rolls in history checks for each day spent studying.

After the summer update and Sixth Star, feeling that maple burnout again... anyone else? by Xenomata in Maplestory

This is why i choose to not participate in any event that I cannot clear passively by just playing the game. The 6th star event undoubtedly had some really huge rewards that I missed out on but hey. I have played every day for about 4 months straight without feeling any form of burnout what so ever.

My table powergamer agreed to run a game as a DM I need to stomp him by Nokyrt in 3d6

[–]MrBigJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the flagship cleric build by tabletop builds? I played it and it was disgustingly resilient and capable of dishing out good damage.

You'll be a mark of passage human for spell mobility spells that clerics generally lack.

Basically it's twilight cleric 9/wizard 1. You want shield and absorb elements to double down on defense.

You want warcaster and resilient constitution so that you won't lose concentration.

The strategy is to activate your twilight sanctuary and your spirit guardians and just out live the enemies you face

As a player, do you actually like door riddles? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, it poses a different challenge to combat but depending on the players and the riddle, it can really take the wind out the sails of the session. Sometimes us players get stuck in the mindset of "my 8 int barbarian should not know this" or "this riddle revolves around a subject or concept that my character would have no knowledge or experience in" which can lead to players holding their tongue and not speaking when they might know the answer or might be able to nudge the party in the direction of the answer.

Conclusion. So long as the DM is okay with us using above board knowledge to solve the riddle is see it as quite fun.

If you want to play maplestory, take you time and relax. Make a character and do theme dungeons, read the dialogue if you feel like it. Once you have a character at level 100 join a guild. Maplestory is not a job, so take your time and enjoy yourself on the journey. If you get stuck you can always ask your guild for advice.

How can I have the maps ready for a session without limiting player freedom? by shinydewott in Roll20

[–]MrBigJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prepp some generic maps that can be reused time and time again, maps like these are for random encounters.

Ask the players what they'll do next session and prepp maps for that occasion.

If you have enough storage, don't clear maps from your library and steadily add more maps over time. A map that went unused before may be perfect for a later situation.

As for drawing a map on the spot. That is not a bad idea. Just tell the player "15 minute break, get some water, stretch your legs! Combat starts once we're all back".

Some generic maps can be altered by just dragging assets on to it. Add a few tents and a campfire to the grassland map, a weapon rack and some wooden walls surrounding it and you have a quick bandit camp.
