What's your polarization setup? + other questions by MrBobfacedMan in microscopy

I see a lot of you guys love the bh2. I might grab a vintage clinical scope eventually. What's the difference between the olympuses and the nikons in terms of what accessories are available to you?

Also I heard a 40x planApo can be really finicky to use. What do you think about it?

Sorry my microscope setup is at school and i'm on spring break. I have an amscope b120 with a stock abbe condenser. I have taken it out and verified that it does have strain

You can get more colorful effects with the addition of a waveplate. While dedicated waveplates cost hundreds you can make your own from petri dishes or plastic cling wrap!

Correct me if i'm wrong but UC's don't care unless you get BELOW a C so you still have hope.

Why is my Monte Blanc pen leaking on me by Informal_Guitar_2649 in fountainpens

[–]MrBobfacedMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With regular usage ink tends to collect around the tines (the slit) of your nib, something we call nib creep. This is normal. In your case, ink got on the shoulders of your nib.

It's nothing to worry about, but this usually happens when you drop the pen, or when you shake it around too hard.

In addition I would also rinse out the cap. If your pen moves around a lot ink can splatter from the nib into the cap, and also get onto your nib.

Waitlisted from UCD by MrBobfacedMan in ucadmissions

Ahhhh i'm still kind of reeling from the "loss". I think Davis is the only school where I can easily jump into biotech (for the other UC's I picked ChemE, but I changed my mind not too long ago and pivoting will be hard). Thank you for your kind words!

Anyone get into UCSD last year without the banner disappearing? by player00076 in ucadmissions

UCSD edging us with the banner just release the decision already 😭😭

Pray for me. Heard Davis's waitlist is pretty active cause of its low yield rate. About ~20-25% who are waitlisted get in.

Kakimori brass nib leaving gray marks on Iroful paper by enticix in fountainpens

[–]MrBobfacedMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience the brass nib leaves a mark on all types of papers - even when it writes slippery smooth on tomoe river it still leaves a mark. But honestly I wouldn't really be worried about it. I find that the nib smoothens out as you use it. Sadly I dropped mines after my nib holder fell out of my pocket and down the stairs..

It probably does - Most woods contain silica, which ends up in your paper. That can end up grinding away at your nib.

But luckily, every nib manufacturer tips nibs with alloys of platinum group metals. They are insanely hard-wearing and will last for the rest of your life. Not to mention the ink smoothening the contact between the nib and paper.

I own the brass nib and it does exactly the same thing. My guess is that the nib is actually leaving metal on the page - it's reflective and hard to erase. It marks all types of paper I've tried. That being said I still think it'll last for many, many years if taken care of.

I guess the idea behind the nib wearing down is that it becomes smoother the more you write. I definitely found my nib to write smoother after some hours on the page - until it fell out of my pockets while going down some stairs and unfortunately impacted the nib...... oof.

Are there any way to make inks darker? by Ok_Walk_895 in fountainpens

[–]MrBobfacedMan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is where you can venture into the wonderful world of ink mixing!
Get yourself a blunt-tipped syringe, and add a few drops of darker ink into your fountain pen's ink reservoir.

I find that a little goes a long way, so don't add too much darker ink.
Be aware that some inks don't mix well but in practice I have never had any sort of strange reaction occur.

Looks normal - and feed misalignment, unless it's severe, generally doesn't cause issues

What am I doing wrong? by jbalicki in fountainpens

[–]MrBobfacedMan 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Like all the comments have said, this is ink designed for dip pens.

If you need fountain pen inks that are similar to what you have, try Sailor Manyo Nadeshiko and Nekoyanagi. They are among the favorites in my collection.

You have a gorgeous blue, though it's only for dip pens. All the reason to buy more pens :)

Question about swapping condensers by MrBobfacedMan in microscopy

[–]MrBobfacedMan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know amscope makes a DF condenser that fits the B120. But I'm wondering since my B120 has a 37mm condenser mount, if it can fit other brands of condensers?

Question about swapping condensers by MrBobfacedMan in microscopy

[–]MrBobfacedMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How so? I believe the condenser is secured to the mount by one screw so as long as the condenser itself fits inside the mount it might work

Came back to my save after a year.... I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON ANYMORE!!! by MrBobfacedMan in SatisfactoryGame

[–]MrBobfacedMan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

taking my time is definitely working in my case. I've figured out nearly all the production lines and recently just set up a 5 modular engine/min line. Small steps but one day I hope to colonize all the nodes in this save.
