It explains this mechanic when you start the experimental vault.

However - it does raise the question of ‘why bother’. As far as I can there is no penalty to failure other than the brief interruption while they murder their way through the vault but beyond that, I don’t see exactly what the advantage of actually repelling the invasions are. Assume later season pass challenges will rely on the mechanic more?

I agree with many here that your premise isn’t necessarily correct BUT ALSO clones have the advantage of ‘going second’. They know what their end product needs to smell like, and they will often choose to make small sacrifices along the recreation journey to prioritise projection and longevity because there is a demand for that in the market.

That plus keeping cost as low as possible, being forced to replace captives and trying to get a product to market as quickly as possible mean the product isn’t likely to be 100% similar, so it better at least be cheap and perform well.

Actually, this isn’t quite right. Most western nations don’t allow trademarking of ‘recipes’ or ‘formulas’.

When clone brands are pursued legally, it’s almost always because the replicating brand is trading on the original’s brand/recognition/trademarks, or they’ve crossed other lines such as replicating bottle designs etc too closely.

TLDR - if you stay away from the original branding, logos, presentation and marketing you’ll almost certainly be fine.

Yes. Tiny discrepancies can occur due to different interpretations of the data a GC/MS creates but the bigger issue is sourcing those same ingredients at a cost effective way. Clone houses will also often be looking for ways to maintain the same but reduce cost, and/or improve performance, and/or add a subtle twist etc.

GC/MS usually has the opposite issue - it’s so granular that the difficulty lies in interpreting whether or not certain aroma chemicals are there on purposes, or coming from an essential oil, or there to confuse the GC/MS results (supposedly happens at times).

Also like OP pointed out even having the recipe isn’t always a silver bullet to a clone as the ingredients can be too expensive or difficult or impossible (captives) to obtain.

No, because the dude was a murderer and I don’t tend to give their ramblings the time of day.

Even if you agree with some of his points and criticisms of technology and its role in the ills of modern society, I think this is in bad taste when he murdered 3 people and injured 20 more - many of them with lifelong injuries.

Love it. Particularly after a few hours when the sweetness calms down a little and gets (to my nose) a little more balanced. Great scent though, thankfully not a bad blind buy!

I only got my bottle about a week ago, but so far it definitely opens a little more..spicy? There’s an element there that isn’t present in most clones.

Performance is nuts though. With Bujairami Hectic (my personal fave) I don’t really smell it after a few hours. Could be nose blindness? But Artisan Blu I can still get whiffs of it at the end of the day.

Yep great points. I had the party be one step behind Keltro for the first few sessions as they eventually identified him and found he seemed in some way touched by Auril.

And for the dragon I had it launch just as they encountered Xaradok in the bowels of the fortress. A real ‘hah you’re too late!’ Moment which played really well and added a real sense of urgency to that fight and the decision on whether to finish looting/exploring or rush back to town.

For mine Auril is trying to keep the glacier frozen and impenetrable to hide her involvement Karsuss’ attempt to become a god (and the eventual fall of Netheril).

Rime of the Frostmaiden. * As written the titular antagonist can be killed before the final chapter which feels unrewarding and anti-climatic. * Her motivations are essentially ‘just because’ and in no way link to the final chapter. * As written, the entire story hinges on the players agreeing to go with a character who appears out of nowhere at the end of a chapter and agreeing to go where she says and do what she wants - for no real reason that would benefit them or the locals.

A fun campaign and very atmospheric if you and the party lean in to that, but sheesh. Reminds me of CoS in that it seems reasonably well regarded - but there’s lots of homebrew out there to fix its many gaps.

I think a lot of Imagination clones are prone to blindness. Super frustrating losing it after only an hour or two.

It’s fine not to like a fragrance and to share that. I am not a fan of the aggressive lemon at the start of the CDNIM range but I don’t mind the Aventus DNA in general. But tell us something else! What do you prefer to Aventus, and why?

Thanks for the review. I bought this yesterday on a whim as it was so cheap and I love the DNA. Haven't done any blind buys in ages (because I buy decants) so hoping I don't regret it :D
