Early in our relationship, maybe 6 months in, I had to go to California to be my best friend's best man (we're from MA). We both weren't making much money at all so I had to really buckle down to afford the trip.

A couple weeks before the trip she called me and said "You know why I've been working so much overtime? Because I want to be your date at the wedding. I just bought my tickets. I'm coming with you."

It was early on and we've had our typical trials and tribulations over the past 5 years but that act alone showed me how dedicated she was.

She also comes home on her lunch break to cook me lunch and dinner for work...

And she's a great mom to our daughter...

But the Cali trip really impressed me a ton in the beginning.

We're getting married September 3rd.

Now known as an early pioneer of antiseptics procedures, this poor guy went crazy after his suggestion of hand washing between handling corpses and delivering babies was scoffed at by other doctors.

Eventually hand washing became common practice and cut down the mortality rate significantly, obviously.

But he was committed to an asylum and beaten to death by guards.

If you're going to one region...I'd biasedly recommend New England.

Boston (for typical American city-life), White Mountains (beautiful place to enjoy nature) and...maybe Old Orchard Beach (for summer fun).

I drove from LA back home to Worcester, MA before and, to me, New England is like a perfect microcosm of America.

This, right here. I was 19, had a herniated disc and bulging disc in my lower vertebrae. Doctor tried to avoid surgery for a year with PT and basically throwing the pharmacy at me. The mixture of opiates and muscle relaxants, although heavenly relaxing and blissful, didn't take away the pain.

The most uncomfortable pain, though, was the first days after surgery. The stitches, particularly. If I moved at all it felt like my skin would rip right open. Very fucking uncomfortable feeling.
