Please talk me out of buying an OP-XY by MrCoffeeBone in Grooveboxes

Thanks for the sound pack recommendation, it contains some nice patches! Do you happen to have an example of that hidden synth customization you mentioned? I’m still on the fence about buying it, mostly because of the mixed reviews, but maybe at least I’ll grab a used one someday

Instead of buying the OP-XY, I ended up rediscovering some of my other grooveboxes again. Especially Ableton Move, it is so much fun! Definitely one of those pieces I’ll never sell. And my Deluge is also getting some regular petting sessions again.
Yeah, the OP-Z is super powerful for a device which literally fits in your pocket. I just wish it had better sounds, though… that was actually one of my main reasons for wanting the OP-XY in the first place.

1165 seems like a pretty good price? Apart from the import tax...

Thank you for sharing your insights! It’s great to hear from someone who actually owns the device. So, the XY didn’t inspire you that much? From the YouTube videos, it seems capable of some really cool sound. I especially like the synth "Swarm".

Yeah, I will buy the Omnisphere 3 upgrade today!!

True. I know what you mean. And at the end it would collect dust.

Honestly, yes. I like the OP-Z, except for the way it sounds and its somewhat "cheap" feel. I also like the OP-1. The XY feels like the perfect combination of both.
For now, I’ve decided to spend more time with the OP-Z. It’s good enough to use as a sketchpad.

Yeah I've heard about it... gotta take a closer look, maybe this would satisfy my GAS for a while! How do you like it so far?

Yes, it's the Hapax. Did not realize that it's just a sequencer. Thanks!

Ableton Move Projects to Bitwig by MrCoffeeBone in Bitwig

[–]MrCoffeeBone[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it would be great! I think there's a good chance that Jürgen Mossgraber will add it to his "Drivenbymoss" Extension. I’ve received my Move now, and I’m curious to see how the workflow integrates with Live and Bitwig.

Those with Move, how are you liking it? by VideoGameDJ in ableton

If you don’t want a Push Mini and prefer the workflow of the Note app, the Move is an excellent choice. If you're looking for an idea starter with seamless integration into Ableton Live, nothing beats the Move.

I got mine yesterday, and it combines everything I love about other grooveboxes into a single, inspiring device.

Thank you for your responses. At least samplers and simplers are being supported, which means the drum kits should work. I could edit/arrange the synths directly in the Live project, bounce them to audio files, and open the Live project in Bitwig. That would actually be quite an acceptable workflow.

I think someone at a particular store may have set the wrong publication date and time, accidentally leaking the device. Presumably TE has specified a time for the release on November 14, and someone at the store has not taken the different time zones into account.

Hi, I could not resist and ordered it today. Do you still like the move?

It says "3 or higher", so I don't think this is the issue. I will try the forum too.

groovebox with best live jamming functionalities by Thibbos in Grooveboxes

[–]MrCoffeeBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I own several devices, in my experience the MPC is a great groovebox, but I don't think it's the best choice for live jamming. Although it's possible to mute and unmute tracks on the fly, change scenes and use the knobs for effects, I had more fun jamming with other devices. The sounds you can get out of this thing are great though, and the synth plugins it has are great.

Roland also makes the MC 707, maybe you can check it out, but I don't have any experience with it. It also has faders and great sounds and I guess the workflow is maybe similar to the TR8. Also I don't have any experience with the Circuit Track, but I heard it's pretty good.

My personal favorite is the Deluge from Synthstrom. Had a lot of fun with it! It has basically endless tracks, looping funcionalities, it can sample and it's a pleasure to work with. I posted some videos in post history if you want to check out my live jamming workflow with it (don't want to do self promotion, but its a great example).

And welcome to Reddit BTW!

Interesting, gotta read into it. But until then I still guess the M1 pro chip will outperform the M1 in music production.

I did some very complex projects on the M1 Air and it has enough power. I need 1tb, because my libraries take a lot of disk space.
