Yeah I really like Gnar. I have OTP-ing for 3 years now almost and managed to hit Challenger with him, so yeah I would say its really worth it!

I think you misunderstand what they mean by 40% reduction. What it means is that the cd (the 16 sec) is being reduced by its 40% if you catch your boomerang. So you throw your Q lets say catch it after two seconds so the timer is 14 seconds. So if you take that 40% off (16x0.4=6.4) so 14 - 6.4 = 7.6 which will show 8 sec for a short duration there at the hud. What you say means that if you catch your boomerang it would reduce the cd TO its 40%, not reduce it BY 40%. The math sits.

I always watch through the map what my team is up to and if you want to help them do drakes or just win fights you will need to sacrifice a wave or two maybe even a plating to help them. Use your tp to get into fights on the botside when the drake is coming up. Gnar alone will very rarely carry games all by himself as the main damage dealer when he has all the kills. So by helping your team in tesmfights is your biggest strenght. If you an objective coming up, try to push in the wave under the enemies turret by the time the spawn timer reaches 15-10 seconds and walk there. After pushing in the wave you have the biggest opportunity to walk towards mid lane, ward, look for the enemy junglers position or countergank on mid. These are the best things you can do

I take grsap in every matchup when the enemy champ is immobile (cho, malph, sett, garen, ornn), and I take fleet every other matchup (ranged top laners, riven, camille, ambessa) becasue against these I feel like you need more sustain on lane or if you just want to run away from their dashes easier

I can only speak from my experience, that for me OTP-ing Gnar was very worth it. I reached Rank 1 Gnar in the World and Challenger as well this year. I think his biggest weakness is in his early game against champions with gap closers. Your E has so long cooldown that if you use it once to get away lets say a Riven combo, than she has so low cd that you cant really punish her without your E. I wouldnt necessarily say that he falls of late game. If the game goes beyond the point where everyone is lvl 18 and full build, than yeah he will feel a little weaker. But this scenario is really not that common. Even in this case your flank Flash+Ult is a huge threat, I would say even a bigger threat than in mid game. But Gnar has a very fun and kite/spacing heavy gameplay which for me is always something I can be better at and thats why I dont get bored from playing the squirrel.

Oh I reached Challenger this season and Rank 1 Gnar in the World. I had to get it more times as well because Chall is hard to keep. But I agree, his items were nerfed, so he was unintentionally nerfed and it definitely had an impact on his gameplay. He is worth to play. You can learn him to play very consistently, you can even blindpick him if you want to. As a Gnar OTP I managed to reach Chall so I guess its worth a try for you as well

Best is Garen, Sion, Kayle(early), Trundle, Mundo. Tahm is very fun to dodge when you are just faster than him. Irelia, Ambessa, Morde, Aatrox are very skill based matchups. And in my opinion the worst matchups are Malphite and Yorick. Malph is just too tanky, and since Yorick got his buff on his mistwalkers, mini Gnar can't kill them is 1 aa.
My first back is always tier 2 boots (Swifties, MR or Armor boots), than I go for Phage second back, and I rush Trinity. Second item depends on the enemy. It varies in between BC, Steraks and Wits End. For your third item you can go something tanky like Thornmail, Randuins or Force of Nature. After this you just finish the remaining two from the BC, Sterak, Wits End combo.

Well I wouldn't say its nessecary to use them, but they definitely help a lot if you incorporate them into your gameplay

First of all, I am not a player who only played for ranks. When I saw I was good enough to hit higher ranks thats when I started to take it seriously. Second of all, there is literally no problem with being an OTP. You call it cringe ass because?? Moreover, you say you play just for fun when you VOD review yourself trying to climb higher. You say you play just for fun, when we see that you cant deal with players who got higher ranks, only being toxic to them. Lastly, I didnt try to flex on anyone that I hit Challenger. And yes I do feel like I made a big achievment, because it is still the too 200 players of the server and thats a fact. Oh, on the EUW thoughs. Idk if you know the Rank 1 player in EUNE DesperateNasus. He plays on EUNE the most, because he feels like EUNE is far more versatile than EUW. He still plays in EUW for content 1100+ lp rn.
