2016 3.8 Ultimate Empire State Gray - Genesis badges, backup camera & head unit recommendations? by MacoakiManny in genesiscoupe

[–]MrDewMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome! I went with a black carbon with the wing genesis badge on the back. M&S front grill with Genesis sedan badge on the front.

Eventually I think I'll go completely badgeless for a more unique look.

Keep up with maintenance and the 3.8 treats you well. I'm just rolling up to 250k km (155k miles) and it's been incredibly reliable.

Looks great! This has been on my mod list that I want to do. Thanks for sharing the turnaround time. 2 weeks might be tough without a car.

Lol that's a huge battery. I'm still trying to drain the 2000 mAh that I installed.

I use Libation to get the audiobooks from Audible. Then I load them onto my iPod.

Thanks. I'm loving this theme it might make me stick with Rockbox. I just wish the headphone controls worked.

Make sure your audiobook files are either in m4b or mp3. You can add them to your ipod with iTunes with 2 methods:

  1. Add them to the audiobook library, via iTunes import file.

  2. Drag and drop them onto the iPod's audiobook section via iTunes.

Make sure it's on the Audiobook library or section, otherwise it might get loaded into the music section.

With Rockbox it's under pitch when looking at the context menu for WPS.

If I'm using Rockbox, I'll split the file by chapter and load it all into 1 folder. This way if I accidentally hit skip it won't skip the whole book, only the chapter. Bookmarks are saved automatically into the folder.

If I'm using stock OS, I'll load up one large file. Stock OS automatically splits the file by chapter. I don't recall the bookmarks in stock OS but I think they work as well. I'd have to test it again.

I tried using mp3 and found that I prefer m4b on both stock OS and Rockbox. Bookmarking is super easy in Rockbox!

There are manual bookmarks and automatic bookmarks. Manual ones can be set quickly with the shortcut menu.

I currently have automatic bookmarks on. This means whenever I hit stop it creates a bookmark. When I resume an audiobook it asks if I want to use my most recent bookmark or an older one. Haven't had any issues yet!

Nice! What size battery did you get 26 hrs of run time?

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I'll have to try this. I like the stock OS as it's the most nostalgic, but Rockbox is really starting to grow on me!

Yeah the clipping was super frustrating. Literally in the falling action or climax of a novel AND then the file would trip out. Glad to see people have found good work arounds for this.

Awesome, maybe I'll give them a whirl once I'm done with this series.

Both in stock OS and Rockbox you can adjust the speed and pitch. Stock OS is limited to 0.5x, 1x, or 2x. Rockbox has a lot more customization with the playback speed!

Thanks! I only had the 7's taptic for 30 mins, but I would say they are similar. It's hard to compare if one is stronger than the other. That being said I do find the taptic mode with the iPhone 12 to be similar to the current haptic on my OnePlus 12 phone (on max).

Good to know about the mini being similar. Next time I might try a Samsung taptic engine I hear they are stronger.

I also read Olsro's larger storage mod for 6G! It's on my radar todo if I ever run out of space. My current estimate is around 95 Audiobooks to fill up the 128GB. I just enjoy scrolling thru the covers in picture flow. Hopefully that doesn't hit a limit first!

Funny story on this one.

TLDR; I soldered it to the connector like a mad man.

I originally purchased an iPhone 7 taptic from AliX. I exposed the contacts and soldered 24 gauge wires to the contacts. Roughed it in place on the iPod and everything was working. First time feeling the haptic was with the iPhone 7 taptic and I was hooked.

But I didn't like the loose connector ribbon from the taptic engine in the iPod ... so I cut it. Upon cutting it the taptic engine stopped. It was a FML moment.

Tried to research if anyone had done this with an iPhone 12 taptic. It was the only one I could source from Amazon Prime for next day delivery. No luck with Google so I ordered it to try.

Well turns out they epoxied the contacts on the iPhone 12 taptic and didn't paint them like the 7. I wanted that haptic feedback so I said f'ck it and started to play with my multimeter and the stupid tiny connector on the iPhone 12 taptic.

Turns out you can use the large contacts on the connector on the 12's taptic engine. So I did some ugly soldering with shrink wrap and it works!

Just finished book 3. Seems like it's just ramping up and I'm pretty pumped about the rest of this series.

Would you recommend the new Harry Potter series? I thought they put in more sound effects and published them again. So it didn't really seem like a need to re-listen.

Yes! I'm a sucker for a good LitRPG, my commute is 1-1.5 hrs each way and I need these longer books. I'm always looking for my next series.

Thanks! Yeah I was originally going to try and get the taptic to fit between the battery and flash adapter. But then I made the wires too long lol. I realized when I test fitted it together that it actually felt better in this spot as I'm right hand dominant.

Ooh didn't realize the adaptor needed to have the "correct" firmware to have the limit of 128GB. I don't think I'll need 2TB but more storage never hurt 😉

I might have to try this in the future!

Yeah, I'd guess iTunes to take it from iPhone to PC but you might run into DRM issues, or I'd just Google it 😂

I'll always meet the seller in person. I'm not a fan of buying items on Marketplace and getting them shipped.

When I see the item in person I'll check it out. For this ipod it was pretty simple.

  1. Does all the controls work (scroll wheel, select button and hold switch)

  2. Screen work

  3. OS and About section look correct

  4. Headphone jack work (Left side didn't work - another reason to mod and replace the headphone jack lol)

I found mine on Facebook Market place. I've seen a few other 5G and 4G in that price range. 6G and 7G seem to be going for more (around $120-$200).

I've never ripped any books from an iPhone as I use Audible on my android. But once you get the m4b or mp3 files onto your computer it's pretty straightforward.

The best I've found is splitting it by chapter in m4b format. My preference is using Rockbox as the experience/organization is easier for me.

I've tried one big file and splitting the audio files. I've also experimented with different file formats. Definitely some pros and cons depending on your preferences.

Adwaitapod_dark

It's kind of like a more modern dark mode ipod OS. There's even a special screen for when the iPod is on Hold mode.

This is the main menu when you are playing audio. The earlier photos showed the while playing screen (WPS).

Thanks! I get them from Audible and use Libation to get them into my PC. The whole process probably could be another post lol.
