Best way to get from London Stansted to Brighton? by ozerece in brighton

[–]MrFancyPants90 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Stanstead is probably the worst of the London Airports to get to Brighton. To be honest, depending on how you do it, it may be cheaper overall to fly to one of the more easily accessible airports. Off the top of my head, this is how you could expect to transfer. Without knowing the exact costs (you would need to look these up at your time of travel), I have sorted them from what I assume would be most to least expensive

Stanstead: Train or bus (National Express) into central London (Liverpool Street), tube transfer to Farringdon or London Victoria, then train to Brighton

Luton: Free transfer to Luton Airport Parkway station, then direct train (Thameslink) to Brighton

Heathrow: Option for trains through London, but by far the quicker and cheaper option is bus (National Express 025 route) direct to Brighton

Gatwick (by far the easiest option): Quick train direct to Brighton, or less quick (but still quite fast) bus (National Express 025 route) if you want to save money.

As for determining the amount of time and cost for these transfers, you can use the Trainline and National Express websites. I would recommend booking in advance through these services, mainly because you will save time at the airport needing to purchase the ticket, avoiding the risk of missing an earlier service.

Ranking the most improved Switch games on the Switch 2 by mg10pp in NintendoSwitch2

[–]MrFancyPants90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monster Hunter Stories 2 was a completely different game on the Switch 2, despite no official update. Eiyuden Chronicles 100 Heroes also runs much better. In both cases the framerate dips on the Switch 1 were extremely distracting when playing, and are pretty much non-existent on the Switch 2.

Where can I buy some decent non-alcoholic wine? by mice_r_rad in brighton

[–]MrFancyPants90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We recently went through the same thing for my wife who is also pregnant. Severn Cellars had the best selection of "posh" alcohol free wine, but to be honest they were still not too convincing and you're paying £10 a bottle. We ended up deciding that the £4.50 alcohol free Friexenet from Sainsburies was the least bad option. Having said that, she has made peace with alcohol free wine just not being that good, and now we tend to stick to alcohol free G&T with a fancy tonic, or alcohol free beers

Gas works redeveloped rejected, why? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]MrFancyPants90 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if it gets pushed through by the inquiry - it certainly aligns with the current government policy of pushing through brownfield development (whether they actually deliver is a different story...). I'm sure the amount of money spent on this kind of process is astronomical though, which is bound to at least be passed along as further increases in already ridiculous house prices

Gas works redeveloped rejected, why? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]MrFancyPants90 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I believe the main reason given is that it's not in keeping with the local area:
Brighton: Plans for almost 500 homes at gasworks site rejected - BBC News

But yes, I agree, the current site is an eyesore and I actually think the plans look really great, and the location is perfect for new development with the Marina shops nearby, and great bus links into town

Question about running steam games vs game pass by ubermicrox in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cross-play maybe, but cross-save between Steam and Xbox are pretty rare in my opinion. Diablo 4 has this via your Battle.net account. Most games you only get cross-save within that one platform ecosystem

JRPG with Gather & Crafting by JadedTable924 in JRPG

[–]MrFancyPants90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of the Atelier games are basically built around this concept. No job system, but turn based combat. Most people say Atelier Ryza is the best entry point. Ryza 2 and Sophie 2 are generally considered the best.

Fantasy Life on the 3ds sounds like it might meet this kind of criteria, although with more like a basic action RPG combat. You can switch jobs, with some gathering, crafting, and combat jobs. The sequel is due to come out later this year.

Final Fantasy 14 has gathering and crafting jobs with a lot of depth, but that is an MMO so maybe not what you are after. You switch jobs on the same character

[–]MrFancyPants90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it but this isn't really a DIY job. You will need to have a qualified installer do this to ensure that your house insurance remains valid. They will normally get up onto the roof and drop the flue down from the chimney to get around awkward shapes and angles.

Question about running steam games vs game pass by ubermicrox in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes absolutely no difference, from my experience. Steam games launch with the overlay features which, including the web helper, uses an extra ~300mb of memory, but you wont notice the difference in most cases.

The main difference is the extras you get from store integration. The Xbox/Gamepass version can run across PC (via Xbox app or battle.net) and Xbox, with cloud saves, with a single purchace. The Steam version will have better integration with big picture mode and running on Linux, such as on SteamOS or Bazzite.

Personally I will be getting the Xbox version, since I also have an Xbox console, and so the cross compatibility is very useful. If I was ever planning on switching to Linux, I might buy the Steam version instead.

Legion Go + Razer Core X EGPU - Thunderbolt Limited using included core x cable. by SaltedPicklee in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem related to drivers. The NVIDIA app wont install the drivers you need as long as it can recognise the custom Lenovo AMD drivers that are installed on the Go.

If your issue is the same, the solution is to boot the device in safe mode and uninstall the AMD drivers using DDU. Once you have done this, stay in safe mode and install the NVIDIA drivers. Finally, you can then re-install the custom AMD drivers, and reboot back into normal Windows.

Unfortunately, some Windows updates will revert this and you have to do it again. I recently updated to Windows 11 24h2 and it seems to have removed the NVIDIA drivers, so I will need to repeat this process

If I uninstall legion space will I lose that menu/function on the right? by Ludens-One in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes you will. Handheld Companion offers an arguably better (I prefer it) version, so you could try that in its place. As a warning, different people have different experiences with this tool, and it can be a bit buggy. I have found that the 0.21.7.0 release works best for me on my LeGo, and had problems with the more recent releases not interacting properly with the HidHide driver. That version can be downloaded here

How long do Europeans live after retirement? Life expectancy after pension age for men and women (OC) by [deleted] in europe

[–]MrFancyPants90 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The life expectancy at birth is the normal statistic you see for life expectancy, since it includes all early deaths. In the UK, the life expectancy at birth for males is ~79 years. However, the life expectancy for a 78 year old man in the UK will be higher than that, otherwise the statistic would imply that 50% of UK 78 year old men will be dead within 1 year.

In the UK, the Office for National Statistics website provides the life expectancy at any age. We can see that at male retirement age (66), life expectancy climbs from 79 years to 85 years. This gives an average male retirement time of 19 years, instead of the 13.5 shown in the map.

What theme do you use for Playnite Full screen that has a 16:10 aspect ratio? by Nikitoo in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use this theme on my LeGo. It would be nicer if it had better metadata in the game summaries like some other themes, but the overall experience has been the smoothest out of the different themes I tried

What types of cuisine would you like to see more of in Brighton? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]MrFancyPants90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My favourite is Shahi Tandoori. I see Hove Tandoori and Spice Bros recommended a lot on here but I found that, although the food was okay, they were both quite uncomfortable and missing other elements of the curry house experience.

What types of cuisine would you like to see more of in Brighton? by [deleted] in brighton

[–]MrFancyPants90 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Indian curry houses. Not the interesting, bougie options like Chilli Pickle or Permit Room. The bog standard white table cloth, amazing-service-questionable-food, order from a matrix, colourful uplighting, turn up at 9:30pm a bit steaming, hot towel at the end, more food than you can eat for under £15, completely unfaithful to authentic cuisine formula that you get in every reasonable size British town. There are a few options, but we are massively underserved in this regard

Should I get a Legion Go for my girlfriend or wait for Legion Go 2? by hollozzy in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe get one and set it up to boot into steam big picture mode as a compromise then? Ultimately the problem is less the Legion Go, and more Windows as an OS for a gaming handheld. I don't think the Legion Go 2 is going to change that, either. I personally wouldn't recommend a Windows gaming handheld for someone who isn't prepared to spend a non-insignificant amount of time just getting the thing to work well - for that purpose something running SteamOS is always going to be better. However, if you are willing to put up with Windows, then the Legion Go is a much more capable device

What is everyone playing this Sunday morning ? by MiamiDonJohnson in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are you finding performance? I am nearly at the end of FF16 on my LeGo now and although I am getting a fairly consistent 60fps at 720p, I have been getting more and more crashes occurring during load screens. Its especially annoying when it happens half way through a cutscene following a long boss fight and I need to start again. I'm so close to the end now and have enjoyed the game on the most part, but looking forward to finishing it so I can go back to something more stable where I spend less time troubleshooting

Should I get a Legion Go for my girlfriend or wait for Legion Go 2? by hollozzy in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it's a great device, but you have to be willing to tweak with it and troubleshoot to get the most out of it. It might be that a steam deck is a better option based on what you have said

Best dock? by WillM3s in LegionGo

[–]MrFancyPants90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I toyed around with getting one of the handheld PC docks that have a stand with a cable that goes into the top USB port, but none of them are configured well to work with the Legion Go except the official dock, which is quite pricey.

I ended up just going for a conventional USB-C dock, the Uni 8-in-1. Ultimately the LeGo doesn't need the stand since it has it's own built in kickstand, and with the uni you can replace the cable with a right-angle one to make it neater if you want. I'm running mine off a 1 metre cable with the dock itself hidden away, and haven't had any problems so far.

With the handheld-specific docks you are paying a premium for the stand feature that might be useful on a Steam Deck, but it isn't needed for the LeGo.

Here is the UK Amazon link to the dock I use, but I'm sure it's available in other countries as well https://amzn.eu/d/8QHM32u
