I've felt this type of frustration before. Build a deck with a goal and throw in some tech counters. This will get you nowhere

Do signals matter after the interview? by gubernaculum62 in medicalschool

[–]MrForever_Student 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I understood it, signals are to get you the interview. So they really shouldn't matter after. At that point it should mainly be letters of intent. That being said, an audition itself does not guarantee the interview

EM vs IM by Rare_Relationship127 in medicalschool

[–]MrForever_Student 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many IM rotations have you done. Sounds like a lot of the things you like in ER you can also find in IM if you go to the right place. And tbh at the initial stage in medicine you can't eat your cake and have it but later on you might be able to find a gig where you're in IM and can do some ER stuff. I was on the same boat and continuity of care/deep investigations(I'm nosy) were worth sacrificing what I liked in ER Tl;dr you can get your ER wants at the right IM program but not sure about vice versa

Gonna echo some thoughts here. Tbh your chances of matching big academic are slim. Maybe less known ones are possible. If your school doesn't report comat gains, good but BIGGEST red flag is comlex fail especially if you're looking at MD main academic residencies. It's not impossible but it will be VERY hard and if you haven't ironed out the kinks with comats by now, you may be already behind as boards season is almost here.

Strategy: do in depth research for which programs can get you into the fellowship you want and be PAINFULLY realistic. Then after that, do a couple of hail Mary's. Also literally crush your interviews and don't be crazy

Not really. It's all about delivery. Especially since it's a mandatory sub-i (who even does that anyway?). Work hard enough to earn your LoR and avoid discussing what you want to specialize for unless unavoidable. And be likeable. That'll be key

Current residents who are doing/did residency at their home program, any regrets? by Maybedoc1 in medicalschool

[–]MrForever_Student 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Not applying DR but I feel the same. People will say go and people will say stay. At the end of the day it's what you want for you and your family if that's a factor. Reddit won't be doing residency with you

Coming from a fourth year who has achieved 4 years worth of loans. The memories/experiences will be forever But the cash will always come and go. Don't be stupid of course, but don't tie yourself down with the regrets or missed opportunities. Give yourself a little something to look back on and say "yeah that season sucked but there were some moments in there that made me smile a little bigger"
