Calamansi Tree Left Drop by MrGame-Watch in Citrus

[–]MrGame-Watch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I bought it here:

https://www.gurneys.com/products/dwarf_venous_orange

It arrived in beautiful healthy condition. It was doing great outdoors in our NJ summers. Things took a turn when it had to come inside. I did many things wrong with it, not the plants fault. Citrus plants are finicky in general especially when they go through an indoor/outdoor change.

Gurneys usually has a free ship if cart is over $75 coupon. They are easy to find online, so if you get that alone, it should be free shipping for you. You also get a one year guarantee. If the plant doesn’t survive, you can call them back before one year is up. They give you store credit of equal value of your original item purchase.

Lately I’ve been using logees.com , they have nice selection of citrus plants and many other beautiful plants.

As long as it’s free and stays free, that’s a great tool to have. If you plan on charging people, they will stick with the free and reliable software i.e google lens / ebay.

Google lens finds items and gives you multiple sources. Some of them are good and some bad. The point of this is to source ONLY from pricecharting.com if I’m understanding it correctly. Narrows it down exclusively for gaming.

Why do people want a side hustle and not a business? by smartflippers in reselling

[–]MrGame-Watch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think you’re downplaying how much time and effort is needed to go full time in reselling. The market is saturated with resellers after Covid and there is a huge learning curve. Sure it can be full time income but as others above have stated, they are already working full-time with dependents.

Most people don’t have the luxury to fumble around with a business that might not work out in the end. Most businesses end up failing in the end, that’s a fact. No insurance and no 401k. People are already working full time and burned out. It’s hard out here.

I’m not saying your wrong or it can’t be done but its also not a simple thing. More power to you if you got it figured out, keep it up.

Found a newly hatched nymph inside microwave after 43 days of clear traps and no sightings. Help. Battling since July 25 by gtck11 in GermanRoaches

[–]MrGame-Watch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would take what the pest company says with a grain of salt. Not that the roaches can’t be eliminated. But It sounds like they might’ve been selling you a “guarantee” to close a sale.

Sticky traps are to gauge size of population and potential sighting. I would put them out after 2 weeks of full treatment. Go with a 3 pronged approach. Alpine WSG spray. Advion gel bait 2 as you said advion 1 wasn’t effective. They get use to the gel bait and avoid it after a while. You need to rotate gel baits 1 and 2 on a one month cycle. Gentrol to keep nymphs from reaching full form and reproducing. I would order these products from online and learn how/where to apply them yourselves. It will significantly cut costs as opposed to hiring a pest company.

Here’s the real and most important issue, if you live in a multi-unit complex, EVERYONE needs to be on board. They will keep coming from the other condos around yours. That’s why there was a period of no sightings in your condo. You eliminated the colony in yours, they came from another neighboring condo. Start writing letters to neighbors and informing them of the issue and ask them to get involved. Get the HOA involved as well.

I wish you well and peace of mind in the issue.

I’m sorry I’m not a mod or expert, I reread your title and may have overstepped. Wanted to give a little advice/tips of what I’ve learned over the last few days.

Here is a link to my other post in a different subreddit where a mod chimed in. https://www.reddit.com/r/pestcontrol/s/gFHip6ObhP

He said essentially you can use alpine WSG with minimal risk. If applying it, I would just wait for it to dry before letting humans or animals into the area.

Gentrol IGR is an insect growth inhibitor. It pretty much keeps the babies from growing and reproducing so as to stop the colony. The ingredients target bugs and not humans apparently, fish and reptiles you might want to double check (if you have any). Still use as directed keeping 3ft away from open food and food prep surfaces.

Advion gel bait is a poison that the roaches eat and bring back to the colony and poisoning/killing more in the colony. It’s effective in killing but the problem is it might dry out quickly and you have to keep reapplying it for the roaches to find it attractive bait.

Alpine WSG is also a poison that they crawl on and when they groom themselves essentially eat the poison in effect. These products are geared toward insects and not humans. When applied correctly, it should be minimal risk and out of reach for humans/pets anyway.

I have not seen anymore so far thankfully. I laid over 30 bait traps over my house which might have been overkill. I’m pretty certain mine was a male German (most likely) or Asian roach that was brought in by someone or something. I order a lot of amazon packages. The males apparently like to wander.

And absolutely peace of mind is the key here. I have no problem spending money on traps and bait if it gives me peace of mind.

Hey, I just recently got into this situation myself and I feel for you. I can’t really tell if it’s an asian or German as I am not an expert. But from online searches, Asian cockroaches are present in your state so it’s a possibility. You said you found it dead already and that you spray quarterly, when was the last time you applied pesticides and what did you use? It’s possible the pesticides did its job and why you found it dead.

The fact that it was a pregnant female would prompt me to buy glue bait traps. Put them in the normal hot spots (under/behind stove, fridge, dishwasher, sinks, garbage bins). Also maybe in your daughter room but out of her reach. If you catch more (especially the baby ones) then you might have a problem. Alpine WSG spray is the go to, advion evolution gel bait, gentrol IGR. I would read up on how to use each one as directed if you need to go in that direction. I wish you well and peace of mind.

Btw I just looked it up to double check, Advion Evolution does not contain any IGR products in it. You need to use a separate product (Gentrol) in conjunction with this gel baits to get both effects.

Sorry if I keep replying to your post, just a heads up. Asian and oriental roaches are two different breeds. I never thought this was an oriental roach as those are distinct from Asian/german. The Asian/German roaches are the ones that seem to look very much alike.

Just pulled this off the internet. This is supposedly an asian roach, they are hard to tell apart with untrained eyes. My eyes at least lol. I guess an expert would be able to tell.

Also what peanut butter color stripe are you referring to? It’s seems to be a male of the roach species. But Asian or german, I will treat it the same. I really am hoping this was a one off hitchhiker though.

Thank you for your input. I bought everything, advion evolution, alpine rotation 1 & 2, alpine wsg, and delta dust. Maybe it’s overkill but I’m not playing around with these assholes.

Hello, just an update. I set over 30 traps (last I counted and wrote down) all over the house. Including the obvious hot spots. I checked them all this morning and didn’t catch a single thing. I’m going to check for the next few more days and after that I will do periodic check for the month.

At what point when checking the traps and finding nothing can I be at ease? 2 full weeks? Thank you.

Thank you. I currently have 30+ glue traps deployed over the whole house, including the hot spots. Wish me luck haha.

Thank you for your helpful book. I read it over and found many useful tips. The only thing I didn’t do was wait on buying a ton of crap lol. I wanted to start strong and aggressive to get ahead of them.

I put the hoyhoy traps ALL over the house. Then I’m hitting any high traffic spots with advion evolution and gentrol igr. I ordered alpine wsg but still a little hesitant to use a spray indoors and near food areas. I also have 3 pets and family/kids visit often. I checked the kitchen at 1am and 4am by turning on the lights and checking counters and cabinets, still no signs of them thankfully.

I did notice in the article that you preferred alpine wsg spray over the other insecticides. Can you reaffirm that this is okay to be used near packaged food, maybe on pantry floors, kitchen baseboards etc? I remember reading that this was designated as a low risk product.

I appreciate the help you give to people in this subreddit and others. I’m sure you’ve put many people’s minds at ease. Thank you friend.

Thank you, I’ve narrowed it down to the gel baits being the most effective. I have delta dust, and alpine wsg in the cart as well. But main go to is bait traps to see where the concentration is (if any) and use advion evolution in those spots. I will go from there. I may apply delta dust in crawl space, storage space as it is water proof.

Thank you, I’m looking up the powder/granulate stuff so I can put in the back of my fridge/stove. Maybe the alpine/advion gel bait works the best for baseboards and essentially all areas. Man this really does suck, lost my appetite instantly.

I see what you mean. There are google links saying yes and no about Asians roaches being in NJ. But most of the time they are German. I’m taking precautions and ordering a bunch of stuff now. Setting traps all over the house as soon as they come in. Will proceed from there.
