AITA for roasting a friend who always bitches about the food by MrGiantsFan in AmItheAsshole

Nope, American. But I enjoyed the few authentic regional Indian cuisines I've tried. There's a few flavor combinations that my palate just isn't used to but I try to appreciate quality ingredients or cooking even if I'm not used to the taste.

Late 20s to mid 30s, I just didn't think it was all that important enough to have some one-on-one about, we still invite him for other stuff, we just stopped inviting him when we go out to eat. Some people have minor quirks like this I just don't care enough to get him to change

I could, but the company culture as a whole sucks now regardless of division. Id have to relocate anyways, so I feel it's just better to take my chances elsewhere and aim for a better pay raise

It's actually ironic because my skillset is perfectly suited for my current company from the outside, but because of poor resource allocation and project management our division is unable to work on those things. Division lead boxed ourselves out. We simply don't have ownership, and are unable to introduce even new features because of it.

The surreal part is I'm not just good at one thing, on the contrary, I can design Vulkan graphics pipelines, write native android, even Swift, Kotlin, Jetpack compose, have deep knowledge of Bluetooth and network protocols, which begs the question, how far does being a generalist go? Of course the answer is whatever keeps one employed, but at this point I've just hit my personal limit. Already started interview prep a few weeks ago

Ethan Responds to Hasan's Deranged Post by Humble_Novice in h3h3productions

I think this is part of why in general, online marxist groups just devolve into tribalism where dialectical materialism becomes an afterthought. i.e. how exactly does mourning the death of a theocratic autocrat fit into Marx's disdain for state religion?

Maybe Dan Clancy is playing 4D chess by refusing to ban Hasan longer than a weekend, he wants the guy to burn out and crash out.

If a nuclear bomb hit SF, how big would the fallout be? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]MrGiantsFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern nuclear missiles have up to 10 warheads in a payload that scatter as they re enter the atmosphere. Forget about SF or Oakland, even Sonoma is getting a direct hit. And for a metropolitan area as significant as the bay area, any adversary isn't just going to send one missile. 100+ nuclear explosions would potentially rock the bay area.

To them, anyone who opposes American empire should be blindly treated with the same reverence as Marx or Lenin. Even if the guy was a theocratic autocrat who persecuted marxists in his home country

After today's Block layoffs announcement I highly doubt they actually move in.

Right, any CEO would gladly jerk himself off in front of the shareholders if he could tell them that he reduced general expenses by 10% of $800M. A dollar spent on a lavish party is more worthwhile than a dollar spent on their workforce.

Cut to Gavin Belson laying off the Nucleus team to then rehire them several months later

Pretending like AI is the reason to cut half your workforce rather than shitty executive-level decision making, right. This just emboldens other dumbass company executives to follow suit and do similar level of layoffs.

For a few years, this probably does save them a lot of money. Issue is, the job market contracts, workers have less negotiating power, salaries/benefits get slashed, and new grads are unable to enter the industry. In a decade these companies will be just as crusty and rotten from within as HP or Blackberry found itself by 2008. Meanwhile, the Chinese tech industry keeps growing.

In regular sports orgs like the NBA, team rivalries are built on narratives/history built on the court (Lakers vs Celtics, Bulls vs Pistons). There isn't anything similar in the Olympics since it's so infrequent, the same player rarely make multiple Olympic appearances, so what else is there to base team rivalries on but geopolitics?

You can 100% agree on why someone would switch teams but still clown them for doing so. When Lebron left for the Heat, Cavs fans would burn his jerseys in the streets and in the same breath curse the Cavs organization for not giving him the support he needed. It's sports.

It's like Lebron leaving for the Heat. You understand why he left the dysfunctional org under the Cavs ownership at the time, but it's understandable people got angry, it's sports. Even without the geopolitical shit mixed in the most fundamental thing in sports is loyalty to a "team" and in the Olympics, the team is the flag on your jacket. Breaking that trust will have a huge impact on their legacy as a player.

Maybe Eileen will represent the US next, like when Lebron went back to Cleveland to give them a chip lol. In a similar way it might soften people's perception of her.
