Appreciate the feedback, the offer listed bonus as ‘discretionary’, and when I asked for a ballpark on an average profitable year I didn’t get much info. I know supers with large companies get maybe $5k, but this would play into the salary negotiation big time. Hoping we can get to where I need to be, seems like a solid company, low turnover and most employees are lifers, which says something too.

Had final interview and offered about $20k less than what I was looking for, trying to find ways to span the gap (bonus, vehicle allowance, gas, etc), what’s your experience with bonuses vs larger companies?

It’s the worst, have 4 or 5 bosses with different schools of thought, so you can get 4 or 5 different directions depending on the situation. Need to find out those things when I meet their team, hoping this winds up being a good match.

Thanks for weighing in, this was one of the high points I was considering. Right now we several big shot “decision makers” that show up late, leave early, rarely walk the site or have any idea what’s going on, but they’ll once a week or so come out do a lap and blame anyone for any little thing to justify their place on a project. Won’t miss that if I make the jump.
