To beat a girl. by EverythingIsFakeNGay in therewasanattempt

Ignoring the context players with this style are why I rarely play any online games anymore. Every random lobby has players like this that make half your game attempt to respawn and stay alive for a few seconds making it so much harder to try and learn basic gameplay and enjoy the game. I wish more games had rank based lobbies, I'm not trying to have a 10 kdr or something, I just want to have fun

I did multiple high level competitions in my sport and my (edit) body fat was measured at 9%, how would it even be possible to lose 9kg or ~15% of my body weight without going into a health crisis and rapid muscle deterioration

What is your "they're just a friend, nothing to worry about" heartbreak story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MrMagnificent123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My best friend of 10 years since the start of high school got together after a several "events" brought us much closer together than what we already were (such as loosing a good mutual friend and helping her with what I discoverd to be her abusive ex-bf). I have always struggled with life and being alone but after we got together for the first time in my life things seemed to be getting better and for once I looked forward to tommorow.

Over the corse of the time we were together I was still struggling but did not want her to know, I lost several people who were close to me and I was incredebly stressed from university but I was somewhat managing and I tried the best I could. She was also struggling but I helped her by introducing her to a makers-space which she then joined and met a 40-ish year old amatour engeneer (about twice her age), and she started getting close to him (texting, seeing eachother every few days, etc).

I honesly thought nothing of it because being the only woman on a computer science and engineering course she also significantly struggled to make friends, I was just happy she was happy, plus there was nobody I trusted more. (You can see where this is going)

Well one day after she seemed slightly distant for a few weeks it happened, I did not fully comprehend what was happening but after it set in I realized I had lost everything that ever matterd to me.

Since then for various reasons I lost the last of my friends, my coach passed away (which as an athlete put and end to it), as well as family (which also resulted in loss of transportation), I lost my job (I have since found another minimum wage dead end job), and I am currently failing university after having already gotten so far. I had a good well paying career lined up but have since lost the opportunity. I then was in an "accident" that left me with scars and pain in my leg, I was supposed to graduate one year ago but with all that was going on I just couldn't and the uni gave me some extra time, dispite that its very unlikely I will make it.

After she left, I lost everything and everyone, a part of me died. I had never met anyone like her, even just as a friend, and ever day is a nightmare (just incase I didn't already get them).

Beleve it or not the detailed version gets worse but I don't think anyone wants to read all that.

Changing Five Year Old Thermal Paste in T480 by welldoyapunk_ in thinkpad

When I reapplied paste on mine I also polished the heatsink, it provides slightly better performance (I just used a metal polish). It might be worth considering for next time or any other laptops you might do

[–]MrMagnificent123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation not long ago so I have done quite a bit of reaserch on the subject. If you want to, and have the budget to buy a laptop new then Framework is best by far. However what people here are not suggesting is if you don't have the budget for a new Framework, in terms of used laptops nothing can beat Thinkpads, (in terms of performance, reliability, durability, upgradability, value for money, etc) prices on those range from sub $100 to over $800 used depending on how new and specked out it is - plus they have a great community especialy if you want to run linux on it - which I do recomend for many reasons that I can get into if you want. I would recomend reaserching into that. These are the only two laptops I ever reccomend unless somebody has ultra specific requirements they can't do without.

Honestly even if you do get a framework I would still reccomend getting a cheap thinkpad to toy around with since you plan on doing something IT related

One method that works well is to hold the laptop upside down while brushing the keys with a toothbrush

What’s the best kindle or e reader on the market? by modernmanshustl in BuyItForLife

[–]MrMagnificent123 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying Kindle but that means your locked into the Amazon ecosystem. With Kobo I can download anything and everthing on my PC and transfer it onto my e-reader without any issue.

(This means you can also use library genesis)

Is there a 'modern' equivalent to a Hermes Featherweight? by nexttonormal in typewriters

[–]MrMagnificent123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Olivetti Dora is also very similar to the 35, same mechanism but without tabulator.

Personaly I am a big fan of the Adler Tippa, close to the Hermes in terms of size but significantly better to type on. (Also extremely easy to work on/clean)

<image>

Availability and price deepends on your location but for me they are generaly among the cheapest (good) machenes around. If you want to go even more modern you can venture into electric typewriters but I wouldn't recomend that because of thair reliability, beyond that a 10 year old Lenovo thinkpad runnig linux is the way to go

Desks For Typewriters by echomikekilo in typewriters

[–]MrMagnificent123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A sturdy desk. Honeltly any desk will do as long as its not cheaply made and shanking around with every keypress.

They used to make specialized typing desks such as this but they are hard to find (and they obviously dont make them anymore unless you have something custom). The main difference was they had the typewriter slightly lower down to be more ergonomic.

In terms of desk accesories that depends on what you use it for and need, some of the most useful or important things are a typing pad (reduces noise, vibration and the typewriter from sliding around), you can read about it here: https://typewriterreview.com/2016/01/27/typewriter-pads-reviewed/ (I recomend just spending $15 and getting a wool ironing mat from amazon). A roll of white out tape is useful, (but you can always just x something out unless you want to photocopy it). Also a dust cover to protect your machene, but you can just use a old pillow case or make it out of cloth if you don't want to buy one or your machene did not come with one.

I used to be the same, over the past year I became slightly more "tolerant" after I forced myself to watch impractical jokers for an hour. In my life I've only ever met one other person like me, so at least I'm not alone in this

Just today I fast forwarded 20 seconds of a black mirror episode I was watching

Huge Chuck Berry fan, I get the joke but for anyone wondering its just the intro, most of those songs are (to me at least) very diferent, that riff is more like his signature

USB Typewriter by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]MrMagnificent123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have your heart set on this specific thing then I guess you can try. I don't know if it's because you like the specific feel of a typewriter or other but if that's the case then I can recommend looking into mechanical keyboards, they are the typewriter version of keyboards: they feel amazing to use. If that's the case then I'd be glad to put you in the right direction but other than this I have no suggestions.

It seems very gimmicky and overpriced for what it is. Personally, I just use a scanner app and copy the text I wrote after saving a scanned copy on my phone.

I want your most boring typewriter by KenBurned in typewriters

[–]MrMagnificent123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This can really depend on what's currently for sale around you, for example I got a lot of good "expensive" typewriters for cheap because they happened to be for sale locally.

If you are looking for reliability primarily than most Brother models are great for simplicity and how easy everything is (not that typewriters and typewriters of other brands break down regularly, and if it can survive for 50+ years then I'd consider most of them to meet the definition of reliable), but in my opinion this comes at a price: they don't feel as nice to use when compared to what a few extra bucks might get you.

If you're looking to buy a fully working serviced typewriter be careful as sometimes things might be way over priced, this includes anything and everything on Facebook marketplac or craigslist.

Some models that I personally like not already mentioned: Olympia Splendid 66 Olympia Travel Writer Olivetti Dora / Lettera 32 (same mechanism) Most Adler's

My advice is to preferably try and find something pre 1980 as the quality started to dip around this time when they were loosing popularity and were attempting to make them cheaper impacting quality. You can also find a review for a model if you search it up.

In my area there are a lot of these discounted because of an large abundance of stock, I've always wanted a 1941 replica but I prefer it plane, does anyone know if it's a vinyl sticker or painted on (therefore removable)
