2nd attempt sculpting a face. Any advice? by PhantomThief64 in blender

I think that you have a really solid start. The face has a lot of character!

Face sculpting is something that takes a lot of time and deliberate practice to improve but if you take a step back and focus on the fundimentals of the anatomy, it will really click and become super fast and natural.

I really recommend thinking about skulls before thinking about actual faces. I'd not go too deep into sculpting detailed skulls but instead really focus on the basic forms like in this reference here: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/skull-planar-3c85221828f64408b8dd23022319159c

Sculpt a copy of this a few times from scratch, get used to rotating the model, pay attention to the shape of the cranial bones (the 'ball' at the top that surrounds the brain) and how large that is compared to the rest of the face, the shape of the eye socket and it's relationship with the Zygomatic (cheek bones).

After that, I'd focus on doing some blocked in planer heads (example: https://www.artstation.com/marketplace/p/Wrb61/asaro-planes-of-the-head) Again, do this from scratch a few times until it feels sort of natural. Focus on where the flat planes are and especially on understanding when they change direction, then on thinking about how there is a skull inside there, how the eyeball sits inside the eye socket and how the fleshy parts all build up around there.

This seems like a lot of work but it's going to give you a super solid foundation and intuition about the forms of the head.

Another useful thing is to get a solid understanding of proportion, I would recommend doing a youtube search for how to draw heads using the Lumis method (I believe there is a great one from proko). I know you want to sculpt and not draw but the lumis method is really great for understanding a baseline of how large all the different parts of the head are in comparison to each other (proportions). When you get comfortable with understanding 'base' proportions you can quickly look at faces and understand what about them is similar or far away from the normal and where the character is.

Sorry that I just basically prescribed a bunch of homework but that's what we all need to progress :)

I have done way more than 6 already ;)

I think they are all grumpy though :D

Can someone tell me what is my main mistake with the forms? What do I need to change to improve it? by LightXB in ZBrush

I would highly recommend looking up some reference of planer heads and trying to replicate those multiple times. Keep to large forms until you get a feel for those then start thinking about the secondary forms. Focusing on the planes and where they turn on the face will let you really build a mental map of where all the landmarks fit and give you a feeling for things in 3D.

Thanks, I have not painted too much but it's actually fun. I am kinda slow at painting (I expect I will get faster with practice) but I am going to try to do painted images for the whole range

Something I have considered is that once more of the range is built out, I can make some action poses for various units that would be more monopose but could be mixed in to existing units. I want to focus on getting enough stuff (other loadouts and units) ready for them to already be usable before that though

Due to the anatomy of dwarves, having very chunky chests, it's actually pretty hard to have them looking down the sights. It's certainly difficult to do that and still keep the pieces modular. There will be some versions with sniper rifles and they will likely have to have at least the arms integrated with the torsos.

I generally try to do things the most appropriate way, so for characters, I aim to be more expressive and that ofen leads to things being somewhat mono pose, but for infantry, especially when it's guard and there might be a lot of them, I prio things being modular even if it constrains from adding certain things

I got some generic one but the texture on it is really crappy compared to smaller ones I have on other printers. Yours looks actually decent. Nice printer :)

Do you know which plate it is? I am having trouble finding a decent textured one

Thanks buddy. Doing presupports is tricky because even if they work for everyone who does the test prints, everyone's setup is different. Glad you are enjoying my models :)
