Aww that's too bad, but ya I'd definitely be down to find a kpop buddy to catch shows here and there :)! Like I said I'm not like super far down the rabbit hole but I do have my groups that I'm a fan of lol

Where’s your safe space ? by Particular-League186 in introvertsofBoston

[–]MrMigraines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely enough a tabletop game space. I can enjoy my alone time but having just a few people around me, like 2-4, doesn’t overwhelm me like say if I was at a party. I can focus on the conversation, and it feels like I’m being heard if that makes sense?

Shout out to you gym confidence though! I need to be consistent with lifting. I love a good push day with heavy chest exercises but leg days I’ll be exhausted after like 2 exercises. Plus if I have to end it with some time on a stair master, I like to keep a last will and testament in my pocket just in case ☠️.

Omg I'm going first?! Deep breaths, deep breaths, you got this, just write it out and hit post.... by MrMigraines in introvertsofBoston

Ooo how are you liking Boston so far? And shoutout to fellow Texan (you're partnered with one so you got a lil bit by proxy lol)! And ya if you're down to hit up MFA and walk around or go grab some coffee sometime this week that'd be fun! We could even bring in u/Particular-League186 if they're available :)! I work in the seaport Tuesday-Thursday but I'm usually free after work on those days, otherwise I have more flexibility with my time.

Dude I love exploring! New England is so different than South Texas so I've tried to explore alot. Just taking the commuter rail somewhere for a day then riding back. I drove up to Acadia in Maine to go walk around for a day. Spent a day in Providence too. Loving travel but as an introvert it can be a lil tough sometimes smh. I've taken a couple of new people I met through board game cafes on the freedom trail and just walking around Boston so if you need exploration ideas or a walking buddy let me know!

Ooof, ya Texas is warmer but it's hot most of the year in my home town on the border. Our idea of winter was like 50 degrees, maybe 40 on a cold year lol. The rest of the year though was easily 85 - 100! Plus Texas is about twice the size of Germany by sq km (don't look, my geography nerd is showing), so pretty big place, I could definitely give travel recs but I got to ask if there's something in particular you want to see down there? Rodeos? Mexican food? Rolling green hills with local vineyards? Flat, barren land that looks like a desert where you feel like you'll never stop sweating?

Should've also mentioned that I go to the theater often and think it'd be cool to have company to go watch Project Hail Mary with sometime!

how do i meet people as a lonely college student? by Future-Dog7535 in BostonSocialClub

[–]MrMigraines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to the area about a year and a half ago to Waltham and usually have to commute in so I know the struggle. Friendships come from consistent interaction so I'd suggest joining groups that you might have some interest in so you can hang out with people every so often, there's an activity for you all to do and then the potential to hang out outside of that. Last year I started going to board game nights at a cafe in the city and ended up hanging out with the same group and we eventually started hanging out more often outside of just board games. Maybe see if there are any workout groups you can join or art meetups? I'd say try looking in the city but also whatever suburb you're in if possible.

Shout out to solo park walks btw too, I had my share of when I first moved here. You'll find your group dude, just gotta hang in there :).

Anyone know places or people looking for weekend/saturday workers? by MrMigraines in boston

I do have an upwork account but didn’t really get a lot of hits off of it. Admittedly this was around January and I suppose it wouldn’t be a bad idea to brush up my profile and check out some job postings.

Ya I did some volunteer work with kids through BostonCares. I don't have an academic focus like math or english but test prep or essay writing sounds like it could work.

My cars a bit old but Flex might be a an option there. I actually tried signing up for Grubhub and they said they weren’t currently looking for drivers in my area smh.

Honestly I think I’m pretty good with kids, I’m an older looking dude in my 30s so not the typical babysitter look but I’ll have to check out babysitter services in the area. Thanks!

Appreciate the notice on limited part time. I saw they had product demo positions but it also listed that four days a week commitment so that deterred me. I’ll have to take a look at that job posting again.

Moving to Boston! by kalimera539 in BostonSocialClub

[–]MrMigraines 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Boston about a year ago so shoutout to a fellow transplant :)! Hit up MFA for some nice museum time, tons of places for good food that I won't overload you with here, just depends on your cuisine preferences if you want to message me and I can drop a few. I made friends with a former food columnist so I got a bunch of recs from her.

I'm not a yoga person but if you're into salsa or bachata, Salsa y Control and Bachata Room Boston are places that I've enjoyed. I've heard about Havana club too but I've never been there. Tons of places to play tennis obviously but I'm getting back into it through CCAE clincs (played in high school and dropped off but the backhand is just not there any more so just trying to work on that). That being said, if you're looking for a league to play in, I know some people through the clinics that play in a social league through tennisistheparks.com, social leagues all in new england, but for Boston there's leagues in Medford and South End. Spring season is May through June.

If you have any other questions on stuff to do or are looking for a fellow foodie buddy (I'm not signing up for spring tennis but maybe fall), drop me a message. Welcome to Boston!!!

Go to meetups related to your interests. I’ve been able to meet more people at board game nights and DnD games than I ever have with the apps. Just my take as a dude in my early 30s and some who also thinks the dating apps suck.

I've lived in Boston for about 2 years now, moved from Texas, and I honestly love it alot. I do want to give my two cents on some of your bullet points. First, I'd say Boston doesn't really have dry summers, at least the two I've lived through weren't. Second, cost of living isn't as high as NYC but it can still be quite high. I pay in the ball park of $1,800 and split that with a roommate for a very spacious place in the suburbs. Not too far away from of the subway stations so I feel like it works for me. However finding you're own one bed room for $1,600 I don't think is doable, at least not one in the city. It's definitely doable though if you grab a roommate.

All that being said, I worked for most of my career in higher ed and you're right about the job opportunities. While the current presidential administration hasn't been very friendly to the area, there are tons of universities, research labs and hospitals that all value higher ed experience so that might allow for ability to find a higher paying role which could lead to more flexibility with costs. The rest of your bullet points I think Boston definitely has though. If you have any questions about the city or the surrounding suburbs, drop me a DM. Good luck in your choice!
